I often ﬁnd that I have equipment placed rather close together. With such
a long and narrow building, it's easy to squish the equipment and work on
tight work rather than wide open sequences. I designed this class layout to

give the Novice, Intermediate, and Masters handlers a lot of space and long

straight lines of obstacles to practice. In all the classes, I asked students

to split the course into sequences to work on before we ran the full course.

Novice Class

Intermediate Class

On the course shown in Figure 1 we
worked on a long lead-out, going back
to reward the dog for holding the stay.
For dogs that struggled with the long
stay, I asked the handlers to lead out to
the first jump, go back and reward, then
lead out to the second jump and go back
and reward.

Using the course shown in Figure 2, this
class worked on the same lead-out and
front cross as the Novice class. In addition, handlers worked on cueing a tight
turn at jump #7 and a very long send to
the tunnel, without going past jump #8.
I asked students to put in either a blind
cross (turquoise path) or a front cross
(blue path) between jumps #10 and #11.
At the end of the course, we worked on
a good Go On command and placed a
toy or treat-target at the end of the last
jump to encourage the dogs to drive
ahead of the handler to the end.

Students handled the sequence from the
#4 tunnel to the #5 jump by executing
a landing-side front cross at #5. Some
dogs needed the handler to use their
right arm and a toy or treat to pull the
dog over the jump (red path) so they
wouldn't over-run the jump (orange
path). Other handlers had trouble with
their dogs coming in and passing the
jump. They needed the handler use their
left arm to keep the dog pushed out to
the back of the jump before they rotated
into the front cross.

Masters Class
The course shown in Figure 3 ended up
being more difficult than I anticipated.
The biggest problem area was jump #10
to the #12 tunnel. Handlers who stayed
on the left of the jumps were forced to put
