My goal is that everyone feels
comfortable enough to work
through a problem they're
having, and not worry about
taking up too much time.
Every team will need to have
extra help at some point, and
I think it all evens out over
time. If there is a team that
routinely takes up too much
time, it's generally because
the dog does not yet have the
skills to negotiate the course
or sequence. Those teams are
asked to only run part of the
course, and focus on the skill
or skills that are weak.

Not really, but students are
always welcome to celebrate
all birthdays and many bring
in people and dog treats on
their special day. My students are always happy to
celebrate something!
Do you do anything special
or give something to students when they earn titles?

We make sure that new titles
and championships are acknowledged and applauded,
especially with those students
who are new to the sport.
Most students bring treats to
class so everyone can help celebrate their accomplishments.
What is the minimum equipment you recommend new
students get for their home
training?

I recommend that they have
a set of 2x2s and at least a
few jumps, as well as a travel
plank for teaching a two-on/
two-off position.
Do you use any formal assessments for moving students/
dogs to higher level classes?

No.

more dropouts?

Student retention rate is high
in all classes. I see the most
dropouts in the foundation
skills classes, and often those
students have been referred
to another class to help them
develop a better connection
with their dog or to work
on specific behavioral issues
that can't be addressed in a
group setting.

Do you ever offer a certain
number of classes with
a limit on the number of
weeks to take them (say
four classes and ﬁve weeks
to take them)?

How much do you charge
for your classes and how
many weeks are they? Do
you charge more for higher
level classes? Do you ever
give discounts?

Classes are usually four
weeks and they are $90. All
classes are the same cost and
no discounts are given.

I do. I use a program called
DogBiz Pro. I use the online
registration more for workshop and private lessons, although I think the program
is really great if you have
multiple instructors. For myself, I keep track of each class
schedule using the Bento app
on my iPhone.

When are class payments
