AKC has announced several equipment changes. See the

Here are some of the highlights, which all must be completed
by January 2:

* The contact zone of the A-frame must be bright yellow
and the rest of the obstacle must be a solid, contrasting
color. The yellow must extend on the edge of the contact "with no less than a 1" stripe to add visibility when
viewed from the side."
* Jumps must have displaceable uprights. Ground bars
that are permanently attached to uprights are no longer
permitted. Ground bars of any kind are discouraged.
* Jump bars may not be glued, riveted, or screwed together
and may not have anything inserted inside the bar. If the
bar includes end caps, they must be flush to the end of
the bar end and not exceed the bar's outside diameter.
* In the Preferred classes, the double bar jump uses only
one bar for the 4" division and it should be set on the
back cups-the back being determined by the first use
of the double jump; if it is used from the other direction
later, that bar will be in the front cup.
* Wall jump and ascending double bar jump construction
are both specified.

Notable changes include:

* The height of the pause table (within 1") for dogs in the
Regular program is 8" for the 8" jump height; 12" for
the 12" height; 16" for the 16" height; and 20" for the 20"
and 24" heights.

* The height of the table in the Preferred classes is 8" for
the 4" and 8" jump heights, 12" for the 12" height, 16"
for the 16" height, and 20" for the 20" division.

The first two ASCA agility judges from Europe, Peggy Meersman and Allard Wagenaar, have been welcomed into the ASCA
family. Both Meersman and Wagenaar are from Belgium but
will judge in various countries. ASCA agility trials have already
been held in Europe but now the judges no longer have to
come from the USA.
In other news, an ASCA representative would like to remind
competitors that the yards per second requirements for Regular and Jumpers courses have been reduced as of June 1, 2017.
"The courses will still be flowing and fun," states the rep.
What is a containerized trial?
North American Dog Agility Council (NADAC) allows clubs
the option of offering "containerized trials." A containerized
trial is one in which no one on site may leave treats or toys
around loose, or in any open container, either ringside or at
their crating area. Toys and treats can be used on site, but when
not in use they must be in sealed containers.
At both containerized and non-containerized trials, competitors can enter the ring with a sealed container on their person
(think Ziploc baggie in a pocket). The container must not be
visible to the dog or to anyone else and it may not be opened in
the ring or within 10 feet of it.
In addition, neither treats nor toys, even those contained
within sealed containers, can be placed within 10 feet of the
ring entrance or exit. For more information, see the NADAC
