sends and recalls. We're now starting
from the floor, and he jumps onto the
table then runs down the A-frame plank.
This looks like a nice smooth action from
him, so at the moment I feel reasonably
confident it will work for him.

contact, I'm not happy to ask a dog of
Shady's weight to stop in the 2-on/2-off
position on the A-frame. It's too much
impact on the shoulders. So if this plan
doesn't work, I will in all probability go
to a 4-on-the-floor. Just in case, Shady
and I are revisiting his mat training. As
with his front paw target, we'll ramp
up the speed into the mat and increase
the distance, making sure the rules are
fully understood and heavily rewarded. I
made the decision not to teach turns at
this stage of the training as Shady has a
lot of mass to deal with coming down a
slope. I want him happy and confident
on a full height A-frame before I think
about turns.
