During the Seminar
Here are some essential things to keep in mind during
the seminar:

* Most presenters give a little talk at the beginning
explaining what they will be covering, and some will
ask if there are particular areas that you would like to
cover. Don't be afraid to speak up. While they may not
be able to address all of your requests, they can usually cover some of them.
* Listen to everyone's questions. I cannot emphasize
this enough. If someone is having the same problems as you, watch them when they work with their
dog. You may pick up some clues to your problems.
It is rare that your problems will be unique. Learn
from others.
* Keep your expectations in check. While you may
have some "ah ha" moments, you may not get all your
problems solved. The instructor may be able to fix a
problem or two or give you advice on what to practice. It is your job to take that information and carry it
through. Also, if you have a working spot, be realistic
about how much time you will actually work with your
dog. Do the math. Most seminars limit working spots
to ten teams, and the average time of the seminar is
six hours.
* If you don't understand how to do something or why
you are doing it-ask! It is not a waste of your time
on the floor if you spend that time getting something
clarified.
* Help keep the seminar running smoothly by setting
bars, and most of all, know when your turn is and
be ready.
* Every instructor presents advice and criticism differently. Put your big girl/boy panties on and don't take
their criticism negatively or become discouraged or
angry. Every instructor has hit roadblocks in their training and worked through those blocks-don't let your
attitude toward criticism be a barrier to your learning.
Remember, it is up to you what seminar you decide to attend. Spend those hard-earned dollars wisely and make
the most of the information you are given. Most of all,
remember no seminar replaces time spent with your dog.
