As with all compulsory skills, body awareness/proprioception skills need to be
revisited/reinforced on an intermittent basis, otherwise, they may naturally deteriorate
and negatively impact your agility performance.
Rock the board from side to side until the edge of the
board taps the floor. Repeat this step for 2-3 minutes,
maintaining your balance
Stand on the board until you are well-balanced then
slowly squat as though you are going to sit so that
your knees are at 45 degrees. Maintain balance and
hold this position briefly then repeat 10 times.
When you're ready for more of a challenge, repeat the
exercises with your eyes closed.
Unilateral 3-Way Kick
Begin by standing on one leg. With flexed toes, raise the
opposite leg off the floor, then lower it back to the starting position. Repeat this to the back and to the side with
each leg.
To increase the difficulty of this exercise, stand on the
edge of an uneven surface, such as a foam pad.
Body Awareness While Handling
If while handling, you cannot remember where your
arms/hands are and need to focus on this aspect of your
body awareness/communication system with the dog,
hold something in each hand (toilet paper rolls are a
good size). This really helps in maintaining arm/hand
awareness.

Shoulder Wall Ball Stability
Place and hold a large exercise ball against a wall at chest
height. Put one hand on the ball at shoulder height and
rest your other hand by your side. Keep your shoulders
down and back. Make small circles (clockwise and counterclockwise) on the wall with your hand while maintaining pressure on the ball.
Continue the exercise for 30 seconds to 1 minute, and
then repeat for the other arm.
Striving to perfect these skills and others will allow you
to be a wonderful teammate, leader, and trainer for your
beloved canine partner. Your synergy together will be evident and expressed in your relationship, agility skills, and
accomplishments. Your dog will thank you for your commitment to the team!
