If you’re one of those people who, while at work all day, dreams about what you will do with your
dogs when you get home, only to find the time you had slips away from you between chores,
children, spouses, and the other little necessities of life, you’re not alone! In this series, following
the Bob Bailey motto of “Think, Plan, Do,” I’ll outline plans for skills you can train in 10 minutes
or less, so that you can find the time you didn’t think you had to train your dogs!

In this month’s article, we’re
going to work on pushing our
dog to the backside of a jump.
Sending your dog past the plane
of a jump to take it coming
back toward you is something
that is most often associated
with international-style courses.
However, it is required once in
a while on US courses, and I’ve
found this skill to be particularly
useful for creating flow on tricky
Snooker courses!

mind, merely a send forward to
get to a 270° recall-to-heel presentation from a location on the
landing side of a jump as illustrated in Figure 2.

The first step in teaching my
dog to go to the backside of a
jump and take it coming back
toward me is to teach my dog
what is known as a 270° recall
to heel as shown in Figure 1.

Sending to the backside of a jump is just
sending your dog to a 270 recall-to-heel
presentation from a location on the landing
side of the jump.
