Agility Organization Compiled by Brenna Fender Agility Association of Canada By John Willis Our 2007 Nationals is a fond memory to all. All our regional events were completed by the end of June and many competitors prepared to go to the Nationals in Ontario. The event, which ran over three days instead of two, allowed for a very exciting ﬁnish with only the ﬁnal Standard course and the ﬁnal Steeplechase run on Sunday. Everyone had an opportunity to watch their fellow competitors run and to cheer on their favorites. It was an exciting and fun time for all. Everyone enjoyed a chance to get together with friends, both old and new, at our biggest Nationals event to date; there were more than 600 dogs and their handlers entered. The organizing committee, after putting in hundreds of hours of work, did an amazing job of hosting the event and the banquet was excellent. They and the hundreds of volunteers were much appreciated by all in attendance. There were many excellent runs as well as an entertaining and very fast Steeplechase event which involved two qualifying rounds before the ﬁnal run.Thanks to our sponsor there were cash prizes for the top dog/handler teams in each class. It was deﬁnitely an event to remember and will be hard for future Nationals organizers to match. A presentation by the New Brunswick group who have a bid in to host the 2008 Nationals was given during the banquet and it looked impressive. The Nationals results, courses, and other information can be found on the AAC website at www.aac.ca. AAC elections are coming up in the fall. Please consider running or nominating someone. Now is your chance to have a say in AAC. While all executive positions are on the slate, there are some who have completed their allowable term. These positions will not have a previous incumbent who is running again and will need to be ﬁlled. Election details can be found on the AAC website. © TTL ACTION PHOTOGRAPHY American Kennel Club By Sharon Anderson The long hot summer did not stop the many agility trials held from one end of the country to the other. The entry numbers are well ahead of last year as the number of trials held continues to rise. The AKC National Agility Championship is now fully staffed with volunteer chairmen but many more volunteers are needed to host the expected four- to five-ring event. The Nationals will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on March 28-30, 2008, at the Expo Square in the Ford and Mustang arenas. If you can volunteer, please contact Mary Green at volunteer2008nat@aol.com. There are a huge number of stalls available for rental and the contact person for this is Barbara Budnar at bxb@akc.org. Our vendor area is climate controlled and in a very customer-ready area. The vendor chairman is Richard Mackintosh who can be reached at mcapple@ptd.net. All catalog ads should be sent to Diane Craig at drc@akc.org. The arenas are large and boast many seats for public and exhibitors alike. The hotels are all within three miles of the trial site. The welcome reception is free to exhibitors and is expected to be as outstanding as it was in Ohio.The October 07 | Clean Run over 7,000 spaces for parking can easily accommodate all who wish to attend. The AKC Agility Invitational is rapidly ﬁlling with the top ﬁve dogs of each breed that will represent the wide variety of dogs that show in AKC competition. Carrie DeYoung, AKC Agility Field Representative, has organized an experienced group of volunteer staff, all repeaters from last year, who are now ready to improve on an already super event in Long Beach, California. Terry and Kim Simmons will once again offer a banquet on Saturday night at the Westin host hotel, across the street from the show site. The international entry is expected to expand with Belgium and Japan sending representatives. Updates are available on the AKC website. By the time you’re reading this update, the 2007 FCI Agility World Championships (held in Hamar, Norway on September 28-30), will be over and we’ll be planning for next year. In 2009, the competition will be held in Finland, and the 2010 event will be held in Slovenia.
