Improve Your Foot Speed
The next set of exercises will work on foot speed. Box Step You can use a box or a stair that is 12" to 18" high. Start by putting one foot (not your whole foot, just the ball of your foot) on top edge of the box. Next, step back down. Do the same with your other foot. You should work up to doing this 3 times for 15 seconds, as if you were running up one stair. Lateral Line Jump Put a piece of duct tape on the ground or use something that is about 2" to 4" wide and will lay flat on the ground. Stand on one side of the line with your feet together, and then jump side to side over the line as fast as you can, keeping your feet low to the ground. Try this for about 15 seconds.
All of these exercises do not take a lot of time. If you can do all or some of them three times a week after training your dog, you will notice a tremendous difference in your running in just a few weeks.
Forward Line Jump This is repeat of the Lateral Line Jump, except this time your feet are facing the line. Again, you will need to do this for 15 seconds. One-Foot Line Jumps Repeat the Lateral Line Jump and the Forward Line Jump exercises, this time doing the exercise on only one foot. You will need to work up to doing 3 sets of these exercises for 15 seconds each.
Running with a Resistance Band This last exercise is my favorite because it forces you to use proper form. This exercise requires resistance bands and belt. You will need to attach the resistance band to a door or outside around a tree. After putting on the belt, lean forward and start sprinting as fast as you can for 15 seconds. Now take the belt off and rest for 30 seconds. Next, put your hands against a wall, door, or fence so that your body is at a 45° angle and run in place for 15 seconds. Rest for 30 seconds. Then go back to the resistance bands.
Just Three Times a Week
All of these exercises do not take a lot of time. If you can do all or some of them three times a week after training your dog, you will notice a tremendous difference in your running in just a few weeks. D
