Release your dog and start running
forward. As you run, throw the reward
using your inside arm, and continue to
move toward it.

For this exercise, use a thrown object as your reinforcement. Even if
your dog is not interested in toys,
you can thro w a bait bag, food
container, or a jackpot to y. I use

I'm cuing a turn, I w ant my dog
to be looking forward as he turns,
until he is completely out of the
chute. So, I execute the rear cross
and toss my object ahead in the
direction of the turn that my motion is cuing at the entrance to

Step 1: Do the chute straight, with
no side changes. Start well back
from the chute entrance and do
not lead out more than 10-15'. Release your dog and start running

stride lengths be yond the end of
the chute fabric. Continue running
forward toward your thrown object
as your dog exits the chute. Do
a few repetitions with the dog on
your right as well as on your left.

Step 2: Gradually change your
angle of motion, moving into your
dog as you do so. Make sure you
both have enough room to extend
on the approach to the c hute. Although at first you'll be tossing
the reward with y our inside arm,
you may find at some point that
switching to y our outside ar m is
more comfortable and logical for
your dog. Make sure you practice
your aim before training with your
dog! You want the thro wn object
to always land one to two strides
ahead of your dog, if your dog follows your line of motion as he enters the chute. See Figure 5.
