Course Design The AKC rules of course design for safety apply. Normal distances between obstacles apply except that a Premier course may have a distance from 25'-30' up to two times on the course. Occasionally a distance over 30' is allowed to compensate for a turn. The course design also allows for one bidirectional jump or tunnel on the course. A Premier course allows for 19- 21 obstacles. The obstacles are the same as those used in AKC Masters courses, with only a couple exceptions: A Premier course requires the following: * A viaduct jump may be used in place of the panel jump. * At least three side switches * There is no table. * Five regular challenges/options per course (the same challenges that count in other AKC classes apply to Premier). * At least four Premier sequences (and a Premier challenge can only be used once) * Up to three tunnel performances are allowed. The AKC has developed a set of some Premier sequence examples, shown in Figure 1, but judges may also submit some of their own. 1 10 10 10' 4' 4' 4 5 9 6 4 20 4' 4' 5 19 9 8 Threadle 8ft. min. between jumps Jumps must be winged Running Layer 4ft. min between jumps Forced Layer Less than 1ft. between jumps Serpentine 4ft. min between jumps 270 Turn 2 12 10 9 4Bi 5 8' 1 18' 10 24' 11 11 11 1 9 Backside with min. 18ft. dog path to next jump Angled Approach Backside Start 3 Bidirectional Jump or Tunnel with advantage to choices Can be used only once on course Large Wraps 18-24ft. between two obstacles Back to starting obstacle Pull Through with Wrap 10' 11 10 8 4 7 15 3 8 12 1 10' 9 34' 1 10' 8' 7 22' 13 2 5 6 Blind Tunnel Entry Dog path is "recessed" min. of 10' to runout line of tunnel 40 Run Bys #6 to #7 and #4 to #5 14 Distance Challenge Approx. 30ft. straight-line spacing between two obstacles Can be used only once on course Speedy Weave Entries 21ft. min. straight approach (#2 to #3) Challenging Weave Approaches #7 to #8 and #10 to #11 Clean Run | November 16
