TRIALING
The judge sets the Snooker course with
three or four red jumps, each worth 1
point, and six "coloured" obstacles (also
called "obstacles of choice" or "bonus
obstacles"), numbered 2 through 7 using cones or flags in the colours of the
traditional Snooker billiards game to
indicate their point value.

The 1-point red jumps are always single
jumps, winged or nonwinged. The
coloured obstacles can be almost any
obstacle or combination of obstacles.
The allowed obstacle choices for each
point value will vary by venue and by
performance level.
Note: Unlike Gamblers, where the obstacle values are pretty much the same

from class to class, Snooker obstacles
are worth what the rulebook says they
are worth. In Gamblers, for example, a
single tunnel is always worth either 2 or
3 points (depending on the point system) if done successfully. On the other
hand, in Snooker, a single tunnel may
be any value from 2 points to 7 points.
So, pay attention to the numbers on
course. The number on the cone or flag
is what that obstacle is worth.
Generally speaking, the higher point
obstacles are supposed "harder" to do,
but this will, of course, depend on the
skills of the team. Harder could mean
more challenging to execute without
a fault (e.g., weaves, multiple-jump
combo), or takes longer to execute (e.g.,
weaves, dogwalk, multiple-obstacle
combo), or tucked in a corner away
from red jumps so harder to get to.
You earn points for each successful performance, so each red jump earns you 1
point, while successfully performing the
designated 5-point obstacle of choice
will earn, you guessed it, 5 points!

You Can't Get There from Here!
The judge can also specify the direction
an obstacle or combination of obstacles
is to be performed. There are three
ways that a combination of obstacles
can be designated: unidirectional,
bidirectional, or multidirectional. Unidirectional means the obstacles must
be taken exactly as numbered. Bidirectional means the obstacle may be taken
exactly as numbered or in the reverse
direction (i.e., starting from the exit side
of the last obstacle). Multidirectional
means "Gimme one of each element-
any order, any direction."
Many judges will allow you to do pretty
much anything in the opening, but
may only allow you to do obstacles
(usually combinations) a certain way
in the closing. For example, "Combo 7
ABC is multidirectional in the opening
but must be done as numbered in the
closing" or "In the closing, the #2 tunnel is bidirectional" (either opening is
okay). The judge should point this out
in the briefing or note it on the course
map. This is important information, as a
