Weave drills Discrimination By Nancy Gyes This month's setup was inspired by an international judge's course with two tunnels in close proximity to either end of the weave poles. The jumps were not in this configuration. We practiced all sorts of hard pulls and rear crosses with the tunnel discrimination, and this setup lent itself well to this month's drill configuration. If you have two tunnels, try doing the drills from both sides, or you can move your tunnel like I did to catch both types of weave entries with the discrimination. I tried to force you to handle the entries by pulling and doing rear crosses in some of the sets, but depending on you and your dog's relative speed, you may be able to get there for the front crosses to help your dog into the weaves. It won't take away from the discrimination challenge though! Have fun with these challenging entries and exits, my dogs and I sure did. 1A 10 20 30 40 50 10 1B 50 50 50 40 40 40 D 20 30 40 4 50 50 5 40 2 3 30 30 30 30 1 20 10 20 20 10 10 20 10 Using two tunnels for the setup. 10 20 30 40 Using one tunnel for the setup. 50 10 20 30 40 50 Tunnel/weave/jump discrimination skills are vital to being able to handle European course challenges. Sometimes you can "handle" your dog by physically guiding him to the weaves and aiding with entry; other times you need to rely on verbal cues to have your dog identify the weaves or tunnel. Try some of both on these drills. December 17 | Clean Run 51
