well behind the dog at the exit of the tunnel, complicating
the approach to the double. In other cases, handlers would
do a side change before jump #7 so that the dog and tunnel
were on their right, allowing them to pull the dog toward the
tunnel. However, the handler and dog ended up on opposite
sides of the A-frame, which made reconnection difficult as
the dogs did not have any idea which way to turn upon leaving the tunnel.
The next challenge was the flip from the A-frame back into
the tunnel. A few handlers chose to rear cross their dog on
the way to the A-frame to be able to call the dog into the tunnel. This put the handler at a severe disadvantage in terms of
getting to the exit of the tunnel to direct the dog over double
#14. This approach generally resulted in dogs coming back
around the A-frame or turning back into the tunnel. As with
the prior discrimination challenge, dogs that were not fully
trained with a flip required more management, making it difficult for the handler to get around the A-frame in a timely
manner to collect the dog leaving the tunnel. The most successful option was the handler flipping the dog back to the
tunnel away from the A-frame, then running away from the
A-frame, reconnecting with the dog as he exited the tunnel,
and running in tandem with the dog on the left to the double
and the closing sequence.
The last significant challenge on the course was the sequence
of four jumps after the teeter. I had envisioned the dog leaving the teeter on the handler's left, with a rear cross at jump
#18, followed by a blind or front cross as the dog took jump
