for Kinetex and LVT
and Dr. Seuss stories. I'm doing my best to keep our six-year-old twins on track
for whatever first grade looks like in the fall. We miss and appreciate our teachers
so very much. Then, if time permits, I will dive into the stack of design magazines
that have accumulated over quarantine.
What was the inspiration for your new collections?
Marie Moore: Make Your Mark (LVT) was inspired by the thought of having
an LVT with color as a bold option. It is paired with a simple horizontal and
vertical pattern with the color ombre across each tile. This allows for a versatile
array of color on each tile.
Downtown (Kinetex) was inspired by the horizontal and vertical lines
of the building in the downtown/urban city. The lines and blocks of colors created
a look in flooring that replicates the simplest of architecture.
Laura Holzer: Developed mainly for Senior Living, Modern Repose started
with the idea creating a collection that combined many of the interior influences
in designs for this category, traditional to modern and beyond. It takes inspiration
from natural textures and materials, graphic patterns, from rustic to clean lines. We
really wanted it to have a calm inviting appeal-homey hospitality, you could say.
For Convergent, we began with the exploration of our patent twisting
technology, Precision Color Technology (PCT), which creates shades of color
and beautiful striations within individual strands of yarn. Convergent is a fusion
of organic striation of dark and light, matte and metallic, met with varying texture.
The trio of products for our Meridian, Skyline and Elevated collections are
inspired by the beauty of cityscape and urban living. The geometry of the
architecture along with the modern symmetry of structure. We have adapted a
more abstract spin on this urban outlook by overlaying geometric elements onto
gentle ombres of color and pattern.
Kinetex is innovative from a technological design and also from a
performance point of view, can you explain?
Moore: Kinetex is an advanced textile composite flooring that combines key
attributes of soft-surface floor covering with the long-wearing performance
characteristics of hard-surface flooring. In addition to its human-centered
qualities and highly functional design, Kinetex offers a reduced environmental
footprint compared to traditional hard-surface options.
J+J Flooring's Convergent
carpet (top) is offered in both
broadloom and 12-inch-by-49inch planks.
While working from home, what has inspired you that might find its way into
a future collection?
Moore: Working from home has allowed me to slow down and enjoy my
life and family. Design should reflect this with simpler and functional patterns-
deliberately undefined and understated designs that complement a wide
range of commercial furnishings and finishes.
The trio of coordinating carpet
tile (middle)-Meridian, Skyline,
and Elevated-visually translate the beauty and geometry
of urban architecture.
Modern Repose (bottom) is a
carpet collection specifically
designed for senior living and
Holzer: Taking the time to slow down and appreciate more of what is directly
around me has really helped motivate and inspire me. And If I can figure out
a way to turn my favorite coworker Molly-my Boston Terrier puppy-into a
design, I will definitely make it happen.
Other new introductions from
J+J Flooring include: Make
Your Mark, which features an
abstract wood grain pattern
that delivers an organic and
energetic feel to commercial
spaces, and Kinetex Downtown, which features a layered
linear texture and subtle
pattern striations that mimic
the silhouette of architecture
in the heart of a city.
Are there any books that you are reading or rereading this summer?
Moore: I'm been really busy with my kids, so when I do slow down to read it's
mostly cookbooks for new recipes.
Holzer: My reading will mainly include books like "Pete the Cat," "Curious George,"
