Carlo Merlo was working as an accountant
with Arthur Andersen in Chicago when his
father fell ill, prompting him to return to St. Louis to take over the
family dealership. Merlo says he is committed to making an impact
in personal ways that might not receive national attention. For
instance, every year he gives one struggling family a new vehicle to
help them get back on their feet. He is most proud of being named
2016 Father of the Year for his involvement and service at Christian
Brothers High School. He also is on the board of the St. Louis Auto
Dealers Association scholarship/loan program.

After eight years in the California real
estate market, Michael Niethammer began
working in sales at his father-in-law's dealership in 2003. Today he
owns that store plus two others in Hawaii. Niethammer serves on
the board of the Friends of the Waikiki Aquarium, has participated
in the Young Presidents' Organization and volunteered as a youth
football coach. He contributes to organizations including Kauai
Hospice, Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children,
Make-A-Wish, the Hawaii Children's Cancer Foundation and the
Hawaii State Junior Golf Association. The most meaningful charity,
Niethammer says, is Assistance Dogs of Hawaii.

John Miller joined his twin brother in the
auto business after graduating from college.
Today he owns one used- and four new-car dealerships in the
Martinsburg area. He is committed to education initiatives and
supports high schools with contributions and sponsorships. Miller
also sponsored an auto technology scholarship at James Rumsey
Technical Institute. He contributes to national charities and a
variety of Berkeley County organizations including 4-H, the county
parks and recreation department, Meals on Wheels and the county
backpack program.

Mark Peterson runs what is now a fivedealership business, with Idaho roots dating
back to 1923. In a lifelong association with the Boy Scouts of America,
he has been assistant district commissioner, unit commissioner and
varsity scout coach. He established Peterson's Partners in Giving and
the Back to School Appreciation Project, each allowing car buyers
to send $100 to the charities and schools of their choice. Peterson
has provided funding and supplies for the St. Luke's Mountain
States Tumor Institute and the Albertsons Boise Open charity golf
tournament. He also has backed global projects including painting
shacks in South Africa and remodeling a clinic in the Philippines.

Flor Navarro, a graduate of East High School
in Youngstown, Ohio, spent six years in
the U.S. Marine Corps before returning to the state. In 1982, he
purchased his first dealership, across the street from Youngstown
State University's football stadium. Navarro has been an exemplary
neighbor, donating $1 million to establish scholarships at
Youngstown State, including a $100,000 scholarship fund for
Hispanic students. He contributed an additional $100,000 and
served on the fundraising team that built the university's Veterans
Resource Center. Navarro is an active member of and helped
build a new facility for Organización Cívica y Cultural Hispana
Americana in Youngstown.

Tony Petro, who says he never wanted to
work in any other industry, now runs the
dealership his father founded in 1990. He is committed to giving
back to organizations in and around his hometown and throughout
Mississippi. Petro is a 23-year member of the Sertoma Club of
Hattiesburg, which works to improve the quality of life of those
dealing with hearing loss. He also contributes to William Carey
University, the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg's
Presbyterian Christian School, the Petal High School Panthers and
his alma mater, Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg.
