The carmaker also will create a new management unit to oversee its activities in Russia, an increasingly important element of CEO Carlos Ghosn’s global strategy. Chief Operating Officer Patrick Pelata said the management changes were part of a “normal evolution” of his executive team, but added, “In times of crisis, we don’t necessarily need the same people in the same place.” The changes, effective March 1, are: Jerome Stoll will become head of sales, marketing and light commercial vehicles. The supplier’s former finance chief will assist him over the next few months as a consultant. Schaeffler will be able to put the Italian-American’s expertise to good use. Finance chief Thomas Hetmann is leaving the company for reasons relating to differences over the company’s strategic planning, a source said. The company is looking for Hetmann’s replacement. Gresens, who has a doctorate in engineering, saw her profile raised considerably in 2001. As the finance chief at Schaefflerowned bearing manufacturer INA, she was heavily involved in the takeover of FAG Kugelfischer. Gresens and Geissinger first worked together at ITT Industries when she was head of finance for the brakes division and he was head of ITT Industries Europe. In 1999, she followed him to INA-Schaeffler after Geissinger Renault’s decision to move Desforges to the key engineering and quality post demonstrates its commitment to boosting cooperation with Nissan on platforms and products, company sources told Automotive News Europe. Christian Vandenhende will succeed Desforges as head of Renault’s purchasing unit and RNPO. While likely just a formality, Vandenhende’s posting must be approved by the Renault-Nissan alliance’s board later this month. Vandenhende, a 47-year-old Belgian, has been working with suppliers since joining Renault in 1999, most recently as RNPO’s director of chassis purchasing.
