Curriculum EV-olution
Brookdale Community College's
Automotive Technology Department
and the STEM Institute will start incorporating
EV technology into their
courses so graduates will be better prepared
to maintain and repair the vehicles.
Th e New Jersey college received federal
funding to buy a Chevy Spark that will be used
in the department laboratories " to demonstrate
and teach EV fundamentals and practices, "
says STEM Dean James Crowder.
Th ere is a shortage of automotive technicians
nationwide and as more EVs hit the road
the need for people able to safely maintain
and repair these vehicles will increase. Th e
decision by Brookdale and STEM Institute will
help to fi ll those gaps.
Touch and go
GoMoto is now off ering new
service kiosks that have more features
and technology, the company
says. It also updated its kiosks'
Spanish language capabilities.
Th e three kiosks are:
VSA Kiosk - A self-service customer
check-in kiosk, connected to the dealer management
system. It captures email addresses
and phone numbers, provides the latest recall
notices, trade valuations, transaction documents
and recommended services.
365 Kiosk - Th is unit does not have a
touch screen. Customers use a mobile app to
interact with the outdoor unit, which operates
24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Dealerships can place the units in locations
once not available - parking garages, hospital
parking lots - because of connectivity issues.
Express Service - Th is kiosk is a mix of the
other two units. It allows customers to have a
self-led service check-in, check-out, key drop
and pickup experience all from the same
place.

How EV repairs compare
EVs had a higher average repair cost than non-EVs, as well as longer repair times and a
higher percentage returned for additional work after the customer picked up the vehicle,
according to the 2022 Crash Course Report from CCC Intelligent Solutions.
Here is a look at some of the report's fi ndings.

Adding training muscle
Repairify acquired Automotive
Training Group to beef up the instruction
of its network of technicians,
the company says.
ATG off ers in-person and online classes in
all 50 states featuring experienced instructors.
Repairify provides techs with quality and precision
tools, technology and data.
" As we continue our growth trajectory,
building out training and development muscle
to benefi t customers and our large network
of technicians will be a key success factor, "
says Cris Hollingsworth, president of Repairify
Holdings.
ATG CEO Tim Flannery says the company is
thrilled to be joining with Repairify.
" We are confi dent our automotive training
expertise will signifi cantly advance Repairify's
goal of becoming a one-stop resource in the
aftermarket, " he says.
FOJ TIP
For parts managers, it can be diffi cult to keep in
mind both a sales and an investment perspective
on parts, says PartsEdge Sales and Marketing
Manager Kaylee Felio.
It's helpful, Felio says, to compare your monthsno-sale
fi gures with months-no-receipt numbers.
It may show your parts department is grossly
overstocked and dragging down your overall inventory
health and profi ts because of it.
" When parts are overstocked, valuable capital
gets frozen, shelves get messy and full and it becomes
unnecessarily hard to support current demand, "
she says.
" Th is kind of overstocking also negatively impacts
inventory turn rates and excess inventory
numbers. "
