hopper guard

eliminating metal
contamination

BasF extends ppa
portfolio
Launched at Chinaplas 2019,
the new PPA Ultramid Advanced T2000 (PA 6T/66) is
claimed to be particularly suitable for flame-retardant connectors in electrical and electronic
devices.
This compound group based
on PA 6T/66 combines excellent mechanical with dielectric
strength at high temperatures
- a combination required for
connectors in the electrical and
electronics (E&E) industry. Due
to its partially aromatic chemical structure, Ultramid Advanced T2000 is suitable for
parts that require high, constant stiffness and strength
over a broad temperature
range in combination with resistance to heat and humidity
as well as optional flame-re-

Metal contamination can occur
in almost all areas of any plastics processing plant and can
significantly impact the overall
quality of the finished product.
Eclipse Magnetics has launched
a new high intensity hopper
magnet, designed and manufactured exclusively for the
plastics processing industries.
Available in both easy clean and
fixed options, the hopper guard
can be used in most powder or
granulate applications to remove ferrous and para-magnetic contamination, including
sub-micron sized particles,
helping to protect equipment
from expensive repairs to blow
moulding, injection moulding,
extruding and compounding
machines.
The magnetic grid unit can
be manufactured to any size
with any number of rods, in
both circular and square designs, and its low profile means

tardant properties. The new
PPA shows improved impact
strength on par with standard
PA66 and a lower water uptake than standard aliphatic
polyamides, resulting in high
dimensional stability.
With its high flowability in
injection moulding, Ultramid
Advanced T2000 enables thinwall design and good surface
quality. The new PPA also exhibits good resistance to all
common automotive media
such as coolants, fuels, oils and
lubricants as well as to cleaners
and road salts. For broad application possibilities, BASF developed a special range of
flame-retardant grades reinforced with 30% to 40% glass
fibres and with UL 94 V-0 rating
available for all colours.

Eclipse Magnetics' new
magnetic hopper guard
it can be installed in existing
chute work or machinery with
minimal disruption. Typical installation points include freefall pre-silo feed, post silo on
feed to extruder, or moulder
hopper feeds. A range of hopper guards to separate metal
from polymers and avoid damage to nozzles and hot-runners
is also available.

FeliX launches next
generation printer models
Netherlands-based FELIX printers has introduced its next
generation FELIX Pro L and Pro
XL machines, featuring greatly
increased build volumes over
previous FELIX AM platforms:
the Pro L is able to build parts
up to 300 x 400 x 400 mm; the
Pro XL has a build chamber of
600 x 400 x 600 mm. Both versions incorporate highly engineered print chambers, which
include an enclosed warm
zone and a cold zone. The
warm zone supports consist-

MasterBatch

Bold and
beautiful
German colour masterbatch
manufacturer Gabriel-Chemie
has developed a new range of
polymer colours called Plastic
Jewels. Styled with Colors & Effects Pigments from BASF and
with names like Garnet, Ruby,
Tourmaline, Sapphire or Turquoise, these colour masterbatches - eighteen, in total -
produce deep, dense colours
with a gem-like sheen. The
demonstration box contains
flip-top closures moulded with
the new colourants, offering
tangible evidence of the brilliance achievable with their use.

The Plastic Jewels series
from Gabriel-Chemie
The first edition of the Caps
& Closures box contains a total
of 36 flip-top closures, with
each colour presented in a
glossy and a matt version.

ent temperature control during
the build - particularly important when printing materials
with a high shrinkage factor,
such as ABS, carbon fibre or
PA. All electronics are housed
in the cool zone, to prevent
overheating. A range of automated and intelligent features
facilitate the printing process
and minimise print failure.
Next to standard models, FELIX also builds "tailor-made"
AM platforms for specific customer applications.
