Manufacturers of machines for drying, handling, measuring, grinding and compounding
of materials are meeting the increased demands for "Industry 4.0" functions as they will
demonstrate within the halls of K-2019, writes James Snodgrass

process monitoring

Switzerland-based measurement
technology manufacturer Kistler will
demonstrate its ComoNeoPREDICT
process monitoring system at the
2019 show. The system uses artificial
intelligence to predict the desired
part quality based on cavity pressure
and temperature profiles. The quality
modelling is achieved using software
based on neural networks. The company claims the product will allow for
extremely accurate injection moulding processes that meet the high
standards required by the automotive
and medical technology sectors.
During the show Kistler will
stream and visualise live data from
partner companies that already operate the ComoNeo system. The
stand will include an innovation
walk, where visitors can learn the
fundamental principles of measurement technology: how piezoelectric
crystals, and the piezoelectric effect,
are used within a cavity pressure sensor. And potential customers will discover why Kistler grows its own
highly specialised crystals.

Combined shredder and
granulator
Hosokawa Alpine (HA), the Augsburg, Germany-based division of Hosokawa Micron, will launch its Combi-Grinder Polyplex PPC 50/120 at the
show. The product's concept is a simple one: it combines the functions of
shredder and granulator in a single
unit. The company claims that this increases energy efficiency as well as
process efficiency. HA's senior sales
manager in the recycling and granulators division, Josef Zöttl, said: "With
the Combi-Grinder Polyplex PPC
50/120, a new development from
HA, granulator fineness values are
achieved in just one step. The joint
drive makes the size reduction far
more energy-efficient."

Polyplex is particularly suited to inhouse recycling and its design allows
for several types of plastic parts to be
processed together and also allows
for easy access to the rotor and cutting knives for cleaning and maintenance.

Shredding with adaptive
power
Continuing the "Industry 4.0" theme
that dominated K-2016, Italian granulator manufacturer CMG has
themed its 2019 appearance "size
reduction 4.0". All the products the
company will exhibit are new launches. The G17 and G25 series machines
are granulators for precision moulding with tangential-cut rotor blades.
CMG claims the machines obtain utmost cutting precision and homogeneity of size and shape of the regrind
