A shredder 'able to
handle anything'
Vecoplan's newly developed
VIZ Vecoplan Infinity shredders,
launched at K 2019 in Düsseldorf, boast a flexible cutting
geometry that can be adapted
to different input and output
requirements by changing the
rotors and blades and by selecting the right screen; reliability,
low operating costs and maximum throughput are additional benefits.
The design of the machine
allows users to choose between
the HiTorc drive with its powerful start-up phase and high
torque or the ESC, Vecoplan's
frequency-controlled, belt-driven direct drive. Both systems
are patented and notable for
their energy efficiency. Thanks
to the shredders' improved ram
height, the VIZ can now handle
entire bales. Users can also
equip the machine with a second counter knife. Other advantages arise from the machine's

plastic packaging, and marketed under the Einar brand. The
Einar portfolio comprises 100%
vegetable-based and food contact approved polymer agents
for masterbatches and polymer
products. The focus at K was
on the new water-based anti-fogging coating, for high
performance at low concentrations. Surface concentrations of
50-150 mg/m2 are recommended for a lasting effect.

smart
granulators
The new MDSi digital Smart
Control version of Hellweg's established MDS 150 granulator,
shown at K 2019, opens new
possibilities for the integration
of these granulators into an Industry 4.0 environment. The
digital Smart Control system
enables networked communication of the machines with upstream and downstream components, as well as with
operators. It measures and
stores power consumption
data, allowing conclusions to
be drawn about the specific energy input when grinding certain plastics to defined grain
sizes; as well as data on, for example, rotational speed and
bearing temperatures, in addition to monitoring the service
life of bearings, blades, screens
and the wedge-profile drive
belts (V-belts). This new Smart
Control system is available for

Achieving a good anti-fog performance with migratory additives in materials such as BOPP
and PET poses considerable
challenges due to issues such as
these materials' highly crystalline structure or polarity. Denmark-based Palsgaard A/S, a
producer of plant-based additives for the food industry
founded by Einar Viggoo Schou
in 1908, has now parleyed this
expertise into a range of additives for polymers, including an-

German software and technology consultancy SHS plus
GmbH has added new features
to its Vipra system - a 'virtual
assistant' for injection moulding and extrusion processes.
The modular system offers various different functions designed to support operators in
achieving a consistently high
quality production process at
optimised production settings.
Different simulation systems
are available and processes are
"simulated on the fly", on the
basis of which recommendations are provided. The Chill-

Preventive
maintenance
through the monitoring of mechanical mill components help
avoid unplanned production
down-time. A visual alarm informs the operator of the need
to replace a part due to wear.
An active V-belt monitoring system automatically switches off
the granulator in the event of a
deviation from the nominal value. An automated enquiry system issues requests for quotations for spare parts such as

ware module, for example, allows a live thermodynamic
simulation to be carried out.
The system will produce recommendations for screw speeds
based on 'expert' experience
and on the simulation results in
order to achieve an even, optimised process. In addition, recommendations can now also be
made on the basis of four different algorithms. The Vipra system is based on input and output process data - "process
parameters and quality parameters" - in order to arrive at the
best possible recommendations.
