Prayag keen to
expand base in
North America

Like other Indian masterbatch
producers, Prayag Polytech Pvt.
Ltd. is coming to NPE2018 looking
for new markets beyond its borders.
The company hopes to expand
on its relatively small volume of
exports to the Americas and grow
its customer base.
"We have been consistently
supplying to our clientele based
in the North and South American countries of the U.S., Canada,
Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala" and others, said Manish Aggarwal, vice president of exports
for the Delhi-based firm.
The company currently exports
about 5 percent of its production
to North America and about 8 percent to Latin America.
"We are keen to expand our
base in the American market
through our participation in the
NPE2018," he said. Prayag first exhibited at NPE in 2009.
Exhibiting for the fourth time,
the company now operates a
warehouse with a local partner in
Toronto that it established in the
last five years. It's aimed mainly at
automotive industry compounders in Canada and in Detroit.
"In the North American market, the potential is more on the
automotive side around Detroit,"
he said. "We are also looking at
opportunities on the packaging
sector."

But he concedes it's not easy
to get into the highly competitive
packaging sector.
"It's all about finding the customer," he said. "We have not
managed to establish a customer
base on the packaging side as yet
and exhibitions like NPE would offer an opportunity to explore on
that side as well."
It exports about 60 percent of
its production to more than 80
countries, with the remainder
sold in India.
Prayag is also building two
plants in Dahej, a port city in the
state of Gujarat, and investing
about $3 million to create separate plants for making black and
color masterbatches, on 26 acres
of land.
"The two plants will have the
combined capacity of 1,500 tons
(3.3 million pounds) per month
and would likely to be operational
in 2021," he said.
Currently, the company operates three plants spread in the
industrial hub of Bhiwadi, in Rajasthan, about 40 miles from New
Delhi.
The units have a combined capacity of about 110 million pounds
a year, manufacturing a range of
color, ultraviolet, additive, black,
white and mono concentrate/SPC
masterbatches.
