Kabra focuses on energy
savings, effi ciency at K

India's Kabra Extrusiontechnik,
part of the Kolsite Group,
is in the midst of expanding capacity
on the strength of demand
in both its domestic and export
markets, as it wants to focus efforts
at K 2022 on energy savings
and more effi cient machines.
The Mumbai-based company
has more than 14,500 extrusion
machine installations worldwide,
including in the Americas,
the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
It's expanding its facility in Daman,
India.
" The expansion is going on at
the two facilities in Daman, " said
CEO Atanu Maity. " The cumulative
capacities are expanded by
25 percent to 30 percent to meet
the growing demand from the domestic
and export markets. "
The company,
which is listed on
the Bombay Stock
Exchange in Mumbai,
makes singleand
twin-screw
extrusion lines for
pipes, profi les, pellets,
compounds,
sheets and multilayer blown fi lms.
It said the latest expansion is
also designed to meet demand in
the fi lm and pipe segments.
" We are investing in between
200 million and 250 million rupees
($2.5 million to $3.1 million) in
the ongoing capacity expansion,
which would be completed by the
end of the ongoing calendar year
in December, " Maity said.
He said the company is focused
on upgrading its existing
lines to have greater ease of
operation, higher effi ciency and
energy savings to expand output
with the same footprints.

Kabra operates
in the
higher-priced
segment within

market
and
claims to have
45 percent of
the extrusion
market in the country.
The two sites in Daman, which
are about 10 kilometers apart,
have the capacity to produce 400
machines annually.
Currently, Kabra exports 25
percent of its production, including
to Africa, where it recently
expanded into Ghana.
" We have been exporting to
95 countries till last year, but we

year, " he said.

" We have entered into the Russian
market in the last year; the
country offers signifi cant export
opportunities, " Maity said.
Kabra has forged collaborations
with other plastic companies
globally, including Battenfeld-Cincinnati,
Penta srl in Italy,
Metzerplas in Israel, Germany's
Unicor GmbH, for making corrugated
pipe machinery, and Extron
Mecanor Oy in Finland, for pipe
socketing and belling solutions.
In 2020, the company entered
into the electric vehicle space by
investing in a battery site in the
Indian city of Pune, to develop
and produce lithium-ion battery
packs and energy storage systems
under brand name Battrixx.
