ExxonMobil Chemical is promoting
new products and sustainable
answers at K 2022.
Resins made by the Houston-based
form - including polyethylene,
polypropylene and specialty
polymers - are being run
by 60 OEMs at the event while
the materials company is meeting
with customers near the North
Entrance/ Hall 11.
ExxonMobil also is spotlighting
its Exceed S performance PE resins,
which it launched earlier this year.

vid Hergenrether said Exceed S offers
" a big change " in stiffness of
fi lms while maintaining mechanical
properties. Potential applications
include standup pouches
and heavy-duty sacks.
ExxonMobil's PP unit is working
on " innovative solutions " for
the automotive market, where the
materials can offer lightweighting
and fuel effi ciency, according to
Beth Galvin, vice president of PP,
Vistamaxx elastomers and Exact
alpha-olefi n copolymers. The fi rm
will open a new billion-pound-peryear
capacity PP line in Baton
Rouge, La., by the end of the year
and a new Vistamaxx line with almost
900 million pounds of capacity
in the second quarter of 2023.
ExxonMobil also is spotlighting
its Exxtend-brand recycling technology
at K 2022. The process can
make certifi ed-circular polymers
that offi cials said can deliver the
same quality and performance as
resins made from conventional
feedstock.
Applications
include
food-grade packaging and medical
products.
" As an integrated chemical
company, we can use our assets
to quickly scale up production
using the [Exxtend] technology, "
Hergenrether said.
Markets for PE and PP are getting
new capacity while being
challenged by a global economic
slowdown. Earlier this year,
ExxonMobil's Gulf Coast Growth
Ventures joint venture started
production at two new PE units in
Corpus Christi, Texas. GCGV is a
50-50 joint venture between ExxonMobil
and Sabic of Riyadh, Saudi
Arabia. The two PE units have
combined annual production capacity
of almost 3 billion pounds.
" [PE] is more of a global story, "
Hergenrether said. " There's more
supply than demand now, but it's
a long investment cycle.
" We're continuing to invest,
not based on macro factors, but
We're watching
how the
market evolves in
China. The overall
market is going to
stay dynamic and
cyclical, so we're
invested for the
long term. "

products, "
he added.
" We want to
be here to

gr owth
with the
best innovative
products
and
sustainable solutions. "
The PP market " is seeing interesting
dynamics " in 2022, Galvin
said. " We're watching how the
market evolves in China, " she added.
" The overall market is going
to stay dynamic and cyclical, so
we're invested for the long term. "
Machinery OEMs running ExxonMobil
materials at K 2022 include:
* Reifenhäuser (Hall 17, Booth
C22); R-Cycle (OA Hall 16, Booth
CE07) is running a fi ve-layer, fully
recyclable freezer fi lm pouch
for high-performance food-grade
packaging that incorporates certifi
ed-circular Exceed S made using
Exxtend technology.
* Windmöller & Hölscher
(Hall 17, Booth A57) is running
a fi ve-layer, 40 micron collation
shrink fi lm that contains 50 percent
PCR. Exceed S and Enable
materials are used to help the fi lm
deliver acceptable holding force,
stiffness, puncture and TD shrink.
* Hosokawa Alpine (Hall 16,
Booth D06) is featuring Exceed S
in high oxygen barrier concepts.
These high PE content laminates
are alternatives to multimaterial
structures that can be diffi cult
to recycle.
* Bandera (Hall 17, Booth
C06-C07) is running a nine-layer,
50-micron bag-in-box fi lm for liquid
food packaging.
ExxonMobil Chemical is one of
North America's largest producers
of PE, PP and several specialty
resins.
We're continuing to
invest, not based on
macro factors, but based
on customers needing
our products. We want
to be here to serve their
growth with the best
innovative products and
sustainable solutions. "
