For Haitian,
2+6 equals
growth

With its new " think global, act
local " strategy, Haitian International
is redefi ning availability and
delivery reliability. Congestion at
ports, disrupted supply chains
and worldwide logistics challenges
- it is safe to say that sourcing
reliability in recent years has more
or less gone out the window.
Haitian is addressing this issue
with a new, decentralized manufacturing
strategy it is calling 2+6, said
Dominik Wiesner, head of marketing
and communications Europe
for Haitian International, speaking
at the company's booth at K 2022.
" When we say 2+6, we are referring
to the fact that Haitian International
has two headquarters
inside China and six regional headquarters
in Singapore, Japan, India,
Germany, Turkey, Mexico - all
important sales markets where we
build or assemble machines, " Wiesner
said. " Our Chinese headquarters
are in Ningbo, [in] east China,
which serves the more northern
part of the country; and Shunde, in
southern China. At these locations,
development, production and manufacturing
are carried out on an
even larger scale. "
The regional headquarters, he
said, will be largely independent,
serving their individual markets.
The new approach will enable
Haitian to communicate more effi -
ciently and respond faster to local
customers. They are connected
with a network of all production
sites, application centers and
service centers in 60 countries
around the world.
The company has purchased a
250,000-square-meter plot in Serbia
and, Wiesner said, plans to
build a manufacturing center there
for the Europe and the Middle East
Asia markets. Construction will
start next year. " We're also constructing
a new 90,000-square-meter
plant in Mexico. The fi rst
phase, spanning 27,000 square meters,
has been completed, and the
fi rst machines have already been
built, " he stated.
This decentralized approach
to manufacturing, with regional
headquarters, will also further
support Haitian's ambition to develop
from just a machine builder
to a supplier of turnkey solutions
for its injection molding customINTERNATIONAL

ers, offering them products from
the entire Haitian Group. Over the
past 50 years, Haitian has evolved
from being a dedicated machine
manufacturer to a systems provider
for intelligent manufacturing.
" Within the group, we offer automation,
CNC machine tools,
die-casting machines and drive
systems, as well as the planning
and design of intelligent production
lines, up to the complete
Smart Factory. So, we have a very
deep production bed, " Wiesner
said. " It also means we are relatively
fl exible and independent as we
can make the components for our
injection molding machines within
the group, from one source. This is
the benefi t we want to communicate
to our customers. "
'2021 was truly
outstanding'
Haitian
employees
total revenues of $2.5 billion, as
well as export expenses or revenues
of $717 million in 2021, " Wiesner
said.
He added during the fi rst six
months of 2022, Haitian had already
sold 20,000 machines. The
company has a two-brand strategy,
marketing its servo-hydraulic
injection molding machines
under the Haitian name and its
all-electric models under the Zhafi
r brand. Sales of the electric Zhafi
r machines have risen sharply
over the past years.
" Regarding our export sales per
unit, last year, in 2021, we reached
really signifi cant fi gures for the
fi rst time. We delivered more than
10,000 machines, for the fi rst time
in the company's history, worldwide.
Europe has been and still
is a very important market for us,
and it's why the K show is important
for us, " he said.
International's fi gures
add up in other ways as well. In
2021, the company had about
6,600
worldwide
spread across facilities that together
spanned more than 1.5 million
square meters.
" In terms of machine deliveries,
we had a truly outstanding
year: 56,000 machines - of which
51,700
servo-hydraulic
Haitians
- were delivered, accounting for
Building on three
pillars
Haitian has built its product
strategy and technology on the
three pillars of smart technology,
fl exible integration and sustainable
solutions. With machine
offerings - servo-hydraulic and
electric - in the range of 40 to
6,600 tonnes, the company already
covers a very broad spectrum
of applications.
" Now in the future we will be
implementing smart functions in
the machines - functions such
as energy control management,
the fi rst version of which we are
showing here at K. It's basically
an integrated screen in an HMI,
but is not yet completely ready
for release, " said Wiesner.
In the future, these smart functions
will be a standard on all of
Haitian's machines, he added.
Within the Haitian Group, Smart
Solutions is the fi fth division and
the newest, with a focus in the
three areas of smart planning,
auxiliary equipment and information
systems.
The company is demonstrating
the advances in this area on
three Zhafi r machines at its stand.
Demonstrating the fl exibility of integration
of our equipment, each
will be live connected with two

execution
systems, including one from
ICON srl of Italy, Haitian International
Germany's
cooperation
partner for the European market,
Wiesner said.
" Our own system, the free 'Go
Factory 2.0' process monitoring
system developed by our new
Smart Solutions division that is
currently available for the Chinese
market, will also be presentPhilippe

time, " Wiesner said.
Sustainability is a
guiding principle
A publicly traded company, Haitian
International will be required
to report on sustainability and
performance as from 2024 under
the European Corporate Sustainability
Reporting Directive, which
requires businesses to disclose
the environmental and social impact
of their activities. However,
the company has already been including
aspects of sustainability in
its annual reports, and in 2022, to
make this more visible to the public
and to customers, it published
its fi rst dedicated environmental,
social and governance report.
One of the measures implemented
was the installation of
LED lighting in the plants, which
has so far resulted in energy
savings of 60 percent; another
has been the decentralized purchasing
of materials, resulting in
shorter transport routes and lower
CO2 emissions.
" One of the biggest announcements
we made at the beginning
of the year in this report
was that we plan to invest and
develop emission-friendly solutions, "
Wiesner said. Aiming to
optimize energy
management
within the company, one of the
largest production facilities, the
160,000-square-meter Tongtu
Road plant on China's east coast,
is becoming a Green Energy Lighthouse
Project being equipped
with modern photovoltaics.
" We launched the project halfway
through the year at the Ningbo
site where our two-platen Jupiter
machines are built. Within just
three months, we had realized
this most major PV project so far.
PV solar panels were installed on
the entire roof, achieving a reduction
in carbon emissions of 24,500
tonnes of CO2 per year. And this
is just the start. We want to do the
same on all of our manufacturing
plants; by the end of 2023, we
want to have a total capacity of
30,000 kilowatts installed.
" This shows how fast and dedicated
Haitian can develop - not
only in terms of products, but
also in terms of other issues, " he
concluded.
