Tederic

around China by yearend. It said
clamping forces of the machines
range from 85 to 1,920 metric tons.
That included 450 Neo·E all-electric
machines for lighting and
beam bars, 103 Neo·H two-platen
machines for interior and exterior
trim, and 75 Neo·M and Neo-Mv
multimaterial two-platen models
for trim components.
" Before, such parts were made
by Japanese machines, like JSW,
or were made by KraussMaffei
or Engel machines and so on, "
Zheng said, arguing that Tederic
has focused on technology
upgrades.
Other Chinese molding machine
makers have announced contracts
with the carmaker this year.
Chen Hsong Holdings Ltd. (Hall
14, B43), for example, announced
a 350 million yuan ($48.2 million)
deal in March with BYD. China's
largest press maker, Haitian International
Holdings Ltd. (Hall
15, A57), has said it's supplying
machines to the electric car company.
Warren Buffett's investment
fund owns a stake in BYD.
As well, in September, Guangdong
Yizumi Precision Machinery
Co. Ltd. (Hall 13, C77) disclosed
a 300 million renminbi
($41.4 million) order and said the
investment in electric vehicles
in China has meant " dramatic
growth " in contracts for injection
machine suppliers.
Other metrics point to the
green car market blooming in China
this year.
Electrics accounted for 24 percent
of new car registrations in the
country in the fi rst half of the year,
according to the International
Council on Clean Transportation.
By contrast, electric vehicles -
both battery electrics and plug-in
hybrids - accounted for 19 percent
of new registrations in Europe
and 7 percent in the United
States, although the U.S. had the
fastest percentage growth of the
three, albeit from the smallest
base, ICCT said.
BYD reported selling 641,000
new energy vehicles in the fi rst
half of the year, a 314 percent increase
from 2021, Yizumi said in
its announcement. " New energy
vehicle " is a Chinese-government
term that refers to battery electrics,
plug-in hybrid electrics and
fuel-cell electrics that are eligible
for public subsidies.
Tederic expansion
For Tederic, Zheng said the
automotive market accounts for
about 40 percent of its business
now, with most of that coming
from new energy vehicles.
The Hangzhou-based company,
which in 2017 listed on the Shanghai
Stock Exchange, had about
1.1 billion yuan ($150 million) in
sales last year and has capacity
to make about 10,000 injection
machines a year.
The company is expanding.
Later this year or early next year,
Zheng said Tederic is opening a
Smart 4.0 factory in Hangzhou, focused
on making injection presses
for Industry 4.0 digitally linked
manufacturing.
Tederic also opened a research
and development center in Munich
in 2020, with 16 designers
and engineers, to strengthen
sales in Europe, Zheng said.
Tederic Machinery Co. Ltd.
Chairman Terry Zheng said
electric vehicle maker BYD
is making a $410 million
investment in plastics
molding machines, as
it seeks to address its
capacity problems.

Tederic Machinery Co.
" Right now, for the machines
made in China and made in Germany,
the technology and standards
are a little bit different, " he
said. " If we want to sell machines
in Europe, we have to follow the
policies of Germany. "
The company is also resuming a
search for a showroom and warehouse
in the United States, which
it announced at K 2019 but that
was put on hold by the coronavirus
pandemic, said Tony Firth,
vice president of sales and marketing
for Tederic North America.
The company hopes to fi nalize
details in coming months, Firth said.
Offerings at K
At K 2022, the company brought
three injection molding machines
to the show fl oor: a Neo model
M1120s molding an ABS/acrylic
automotive part, a Neo·E208c
model making pipette tips using
medical grade polypropylene in
a 48-cavity mold and a Neo T160
machine making biodegradable
polylactic acid tableware.
The automotive application is
designed to showcase the company's
multimaterial manufacturing,
manufacturing a roof pillar with
ABS and acrylic with a cycle time
of 85 seconds.
The company said additional
machines can be added for additional
materials.
" The rotary table movement
and positioning is independently
controlled, allowing for a range of
mold designs and complex applications, "
the company said in a
news release.
For the medical application,
the company said its E208c hybrid-electric
machine combines
drive technologies to save costs,
as well as offering improved nozzle
and ejector force compared
with all-electrics.
