FAKUMA SHOW DAILY
Circular materials adding to
growth for European suppliers
By Frank Esposito
Plastics News Staff
Fakuma 2023 exhibitors Elix
Polymers SL, Envalior Deutschland
GmbH and Domo Engineering
Plastics each have debuted
new programs and materials so
far this year.
Elix, an ABS resin maker
based in Tarragona, Spain, has
placed all of its circular economy
activities under the E-Loop
brand name with two strategic
programs: Circular Plastics and
Responsible Innovation. At Fakuma,
the fi rm is introducing what
it says are its most effective circular
solutions and innovations.
E-Loop ABS products with
mechanically recycled content
have properties equivalent to
prime versions with CO2 emissions
reduced almost 30 percent.
Several automakers have
approved the materials, which
are being used for interior and
exterior applications.
E-Loop CR materials are made
from sustainable certifi ed raw materials
that include circular and biobased
feedstocks. These products
are certifi ed under ISCC Plus, and a
mass-balance model is used to ensure
traceability and transparency
in the supply chain. Depending on
the fi nal mix of raw materials, up
to 60 percent CO2 emission reductions
can be achieved compared
with prime grades.
Envalior, the engineering materials
business formed earlier this
year from parts of Lanxess AG and
Royal DSM NV, has worked with
Italian manufacturer Epoca SpA
to deliver Sealove, a high-quality
gardening tool collection made
from Akulon RePurposed, a
high-performance nylon resin derived
from recycled fi shing nets.
Bassano del Grappa, Italy-based
Epoca has been working
with post-consumer materials
since 2010 and has a goal
of having half of its gardening
collections made with recycled
materials by 2030. The fi rm also
is using energy from 100 percent
renewable sources and updating
all manufacturing equipment
with electric machines.
All Sealove tool bodies are
made with 100 percent Akulon
RePurposed. The set of garden
tools features a wide trowel, narrow
transplanter, fan rake, hoe
and two size leaf rakes. Sealove
products are part of Epoca's
Lovelife range of products made
from post-consumer plastic.
" Epoca shares our ambition
to develop sustainable recycled-based
solutions that help
consumers make more eco-conscious
choices in their daily lives, "
said Loek Ribberink, Envalior
global nylon business director, in
a news release. " Together, we will
continue to deliver sustainable
and scalable solutions. We hope
Epoca's choice of Akulon RePurposed
... will inspire many others
to take similar steps to make our
planet a better place. "
Envalior has annual sales of
almost $4.4 billion and employs
about 4,000 worldwide. The fi rm
includes businesses from DSM
Engineering Materials and Lanxess
High Performance Materials.
It is owned by Cologne, Germany-based
Lanxess and global private
equity fi rm Advent International
of Boston.
Domo, based in Ghent, Belgium,
broke ground in March on a new
nylon compounding plant in Zhejiang,
China. Domo is investing
14 million euros in the new plant,
which eventually will have annual
production capacity of 110 million
pounds. The plant is expected
to be operational in early 2024.
Domo has been active in China
since 2016, with a nylon
compounding plant in Jiaxing.
Offi cials said the new plant " will
play a key role in [Domo's] strategy
to expand its presence in the
Asian market. "
" This is a signifi cant milestone
in our commitment to sustainable
growth and innovation, "
CEO Yves Bonte said at the time.
Also this year, Domo published
its latest annual Sustainability
Report, detailing progress
including notable reductions in
greenhouse gas emissions.
" Domo is pursuing a strategy
of sustainable value growth
and strives to become, by 2030,
a benchmark for sustainable
development and social responsibility
and to be recognized
among the best in our industry, "
Bonte said.
Since 2019, Domo has reduced
scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas
emissions by 27 percent, making
signifi cant progress toward its
target of 40 percent reduction

by 2030 and carbon neutrality
by 2050. Since 2019, the fi rm has
increased renewable electricity
throughout its operations to 12
percent, reduced waste by 24
percent and lowered water intake
by 4.5 percent.
Domo operates nine production
sites worldwide, making nylon resins
under the Technyl brand name,
as well as compounds and fi bers.
The fi rm employs 2,000 and posted
