Thermoplastic elastomer supplier Kraiburg
TPE GmbH & Co. KG has developed
new product lines to address new regulations
for material safety for products in
contact with drinking water and customer
demand for lower carbon emissions.
Kraiburg's new line of drinking water
compounds meets new requirements by
the German Environment Agency, set to
be enforced in 2025.
The TPEs intended for seals and sanitary
components in contact with hot
water, such as showerheads, are the fi rst
to meet the hot water requirements of
KTW-BWGL, Hartmut Arheidt, industry
market manager at Kraiburg, told Plastics
News.
Other TPEs in the drinking-water line,
intended for tubes and hoses, " have considerably
improved tensile strength, tear
resistance and ... excellent kink resistance, "
Arheidt said.
PVC, a cheaper and more common material
for potable water, is more brittle
and likely to break than TPE, he said.

New regulations for drinking water drive thirst for Kraiburg TPEs

event. The reason is twofold, said Manuel von Varchmin,
director of global sales for injection molding
machinery and regional sales for Europe, the Middle
East and Africa.
" This show is a trade fair of international importance.
We've had extremely good conversations with global
players the last couple of days. The fi rst fair days were just
fantastic. At the same time, it is somehow also like a family
event. This is what makes the Fakuma so special, " he said.
" Anyone who is here at Fakuma is familiar with the current
trends and challenges in plastics processing " was how Von
Varchmin phrased it.
Like many of his colleagues at the show, Von Varchmin
talked about the ongoing bleakness of the current economic
situation and the diffi culties the industry has been facing
over the past few years.
" Raw material prices are rising, and manufacturers are
complaining about a generally poor supply situation. The
coronavirus pandemic has mercilessly exposed
the dependence of entire supply chains, " Von
Varchmin said.
" Moreover, the energy supply and cost
situation are still very challenging in the
European Union. Especially in Germany,
customers are suffering from high energy
