MBA Polymers UK expands portfolio
with acquisition of PPR Wipag
Worksop, Nottinghamshire
MBA Polymers UK has announced the acquisition of Dover-based automotive plastics
recycler PPR Wipag.
Formed in 1995, PPR Wipag
is a post-industrial waste processing specialist focusing on
the automotive industry. The
company collects complex,
multi-layer parts for conversion
to polymer resins.
MBA Polymers UK specialises
in the processing of post-consumer plastics from automotive shredder residue (ASR) and
waste electrical and electronic
equipment (WEEE). These parts
are processed into high-quality virgin polymer grades at the
company's recycling facility.
The two companies create
closed-loop waste streams by

range.
Paul Mayhew, general manager at MBA Polymers UK,
said: "As a member of the EMR
Group, MBA will be able to leverage the existing group infrastructure and provide a total
plastic waste management
solution to the automotive and
injection moulding sectors."
As part of the acquisition
Jonathan Weston, MD of PPR
Wipag, will join the MBA Polymers UK management team
as post-industrial products

Speaking about the deal,
Weston said: "Over the last few
years we have formed a close
relationship with MBA Polymers UK. We are now in the
position to offer a true 'cradle
to grave' recycling solution to
the automotive industry in the
UK and beyond."

OEM inventory building causes issues at Wipac
Buckingham, Buckinghamshire - Wipac, part of the
Carclo Group of plastics manufacturers, has reported that
a backlog of Brexit-related orders from customers looking
to build inventory has caused
issues with production.
Wipac produces exterior
LED and incandescent lighting
components for premium carmakers including Rolls-Royce,
Bentley and Lamborghini.
Statements released by the
company indicate that a re-

The situation has been further compounded by an equalisation of guaranteed minimum
pensions which cost nearly
£3m, while labour and logistics expenses were also higher
than expected.
Based in Ossett, West Yorkshire, Carclo is a manufacturer of fine-tolerance injection
moulded parts for the medical,
optical and automotive markets.
Goodness Guinness! Stout
drops plastic packaging
Guinness switches
to cardboard
packaging
Dublin, Ireland - Diageo, the
global drinks manufacturer, is
to stop using plastic packaging
for a series of brands, including
Guinness, Harp, Rockshore and
Smithwick's.
The plastic ring carriers and
shrinkwrap will be replaced
with recyclable and biodegradable cardboard packaging.
The new designs are due
to be available in Ireland in
August, with the UK and other
international markets coming
online in mid-2020.
Diageo is investing approximately £16m to reduce the
amount of plastic in its beer
packaging. The company says
that less than 5% of its packaging is plastic. The switch to
cardboard should reduce usage by 400 tonnes.
Mark Sandys, Diageo's global head of beer, Baileys and
Smirnoff, said, "[Guinness] already has one of the most sustainable breweries in the world
at St. James's Gate and we are
now leading the way in sustainable packaging."
