Impressive attendance at
Plastics Industry Awards 2021
There was champagne. There was music. The patent leather was shining, the
bow ties twirling and the evening gowns swishing as guests streamed into the
Edwardian splendour of the Waldorf Hilton hotel's Palm Court in London. The
iconic hotel was the backdrop for one of the U.K.'s premier plastics events: the
annual Plastics Industry Awards.
Polystar Plastics, winner of the COVID-19 Business Hero Award
The 20th anniversary of the Plastics Industry Awards was
held 2 December 2021 at the Waldorf Hilton in London

from the Waldorf Hilton
in London, was
held on 2 December 2021. To
help celebrate the 20th anniversary
of these key industry
awards, the presentation ceremony
was hosted this year by
comedian Simon Evans.
A highlight on the calendar
of the U.K. plastics industry, the
awards could not take place last
year because of the pandemic.
This year, organisers and participants
alike kept their fingers
crossed, hoping to be able to
celebrate with an in-person
event, albeit with a virtual component
for those unable to travel.
And, while the emergence of
yet another coronavirus variant
briefly threatened to throw another
spanner in the works, the
awards went forward, becoming
the biggest event to be hosted at
the London Waldorf Hilton.
Special category
This year, organisations and
individuals leading the way in
the sustainable use of plastics
throughout the challenging

conditions of a global pandemic
were amongst those receiving
prestigious awards.
In particular, the awards programme
featured a special category,
called to recognize and
honour the perseverance, courage
and creativity shown by the
plastics industry as the virus
in all its variants continues to
rage. The new award category,
called the COVID-19 Business
Hero, was established to acknowledge
the companies that
pivoted their operations to be a
force for good within the plastics
industry.
That category was the one
with the most entrants this year:
18 in total. For the judges, the
decision was a tough one. In the
end, Polystar Plastics was named
the winner, 18 entrants were honoured
and Engel UK and Talisman
Plastics both congratulated
for being highly commended.
" Our team worked tirelessly
through COVID-19, adapting
to become the country's largest
manufacturer and supplier
of PPE aprons to the NHS. To
gain recognition for this was
unexpected but hugely flattering, "

ing named the 2021 COVID-19
Business Hero.
" To be able to adapt, supply
and support the NHS through
the pandemic was something
we are very proud of, and whilst
normal manufacturing and general
supply is now getting back
to normal, this is a period of
time that we will never forget. "
Product design
In the product design categories,
Hymid Multi-Shot won
Best Consumer Product Design
for its reusable bottle and coffee
cup from Chilly's Series 2 range.
The judges praised the design
for the ease in which it could be
disassembled for recycling at
the end of its product life.
" Everyone at Hymid is delighted
to have their hard work
on the Chilly's Series 2 range
recognised with such a prestigious
award. The range includes
both a water bottle and coffee
cup which are thermally insulated,
designed to keep drinks
warm or cold for long periods of

time. Work on the Series 2 range
involved extensive collaboration
between Hymid, Chilly's and
Studio Wood to create designs
which not only look fantastic but
are also highly innovative in the
techniques and technologies
employed, " Hymid said.
Cameron-Price was named
the winner of the Best Recycled
Plastic Product for its lightweight,
packable helmet. The
company was 'extremely proud
to have won this award', said
Lewis Pepall, finance director
at Cameron-Price Ltd. " It reflects
the hard work and dedication
put in by the team. We
believe people are becoming
more focused and aware of how
products are made. People are
wanting a sustainable product,
so The Packable Helmet
was designed with this in mind
whilst also ensuring the product
is fit for purpose, " he added.
The prize for the Best Industrial
Product Design was awarded
to Avon Protection for its CH15
Compact CBRN Escape Hood
developed in conjunction with
