Partnering on sustainable rigid packaging
NESTE AND JOKEY, a leading
international manufacturer of
rigid plastic packaging, are collaborating on the development
of rigid packaging from sustainable renewable and recycled
materials for food and non-food
applications. The joint aim of
Neste and Jokey is to work towards a future with an increasing share of renewable and recycled materials and a plastics
economy built upon solid circular value chains.
The partnership will see the
application of, among others,

Neste's drop-in hydrocarbons
produced from renewable and
recycled raw materials such as
various waste and residue oils
and fats, as well as chemically
recycled plastic waste.
Germany-based Jokey produces rigid plastic packaging,
such as buckets, boxes and trays.
While aiming to deepen their
collaboration, Neste and Jokey
are inviting other value chain
partners to join in their mission
to develop circular plastics value chains and more sustainable
plastics solutions.

Dow sets new sustainability targets
DOW HAS ANNOUNCED
aggressive new commitments
to address both climate
change and plastic waste. The
announcement was timed to
coincide with the publication
of its 2019 Sustainability Report - its seventeenth - outlining progress and results
aligned to its 2025 Sustainability Goals.
Dow's new sustainability targets include protecting
the climate by reducing its
net annual carbon emissions
by 5 million metric tons, or

15% from its 2020 baseline
by 2030. Additionally, Dow intends to be carbon neutral by
2050, in alignment with the
Paris Agreement.
Second is 'stop the waste'
by enabling 1 million metric
tons of plastic to be collected,
reused or recycled through its
direct actions and partnerships by 2030. The company
is investing and collaborating in key technologies and
infrastructure to significantly increase global recycling.
Third is 'close the loop': by

2035, Dow will help "close the
loop" by having 100% of its
products sold into packaging
applications be reusable or recyclable. Dow is committed to
redesigning and offering reusable or recyclable solutions for
packaging applications.
Dow has also introduced a
new line of mechanically recycled plastic resins for flexible
and rigid plastic packaging
applications which have the
potential to reduce carbon and
energy footprints of applications by up to 20-30 percent.

Erema Group looks back on a successful financial year
IN THE FINANCIAL year
2019/20, which ended on 31
March, the Erema Group hit
a milestone. For the first time
in its history, it generated a
consolidated total turnover
of more than EUR 200 million - up over 10 percent compared to 2018/19. This result is
thanks to, among other things,
the introduction and launch
of new applications and technologies, including the digital
assistance systems provided
through the BluPort customer platform, which especially
proved their value during the
recent lockdown.
"The demand for our machines shows that recycling is
becoming increasingly important in the value chain. With our
technologies and services we
ensure stable recycling processes and high-quality recy-

cled pellets even with challenging input materials. That is how
we are creating a very important prerequisite for the plastics
circular economy," explained
CEO Manfred Hackl.
The Group is looking towards
the future with confidence over
the long term, even though recent developments have led to
a very tense situation for plastics recyclers. Erema sees sustainability and consequently
plastics recycling as continuing to be important issues for
society and industry, possibly
even gaining in significance as
a result of the lessons learned
from this crisis. With the current
economic impact of the Coronavirus crisis on the recycling
industry, decision-makers at
national and international level must ensure that recycling

recycling
company in
Denmark
FOLLOWING AN agreement to acquire certain
assets of Danish recycling
company EPS Recycle, BewiSynbra Group, a leading
producer of expandable
polystyrene in Europe, has
established the recycling
company BewiSynbra Circular Denmark A/S.
BewiSynbra has committed to a recycling target of 60,000 tonnes of
EPS annually. Since the
launch of BewiSynbra Circular in October 2018, the
group has acquired three
recycling companies, established a recycling company in Portugal and introduced several recycling
initiatives. With the acquisition of assets deriving
from EPS Recycle, BewiSynbra will expand and
strengthen its activities in
the collection and recycling of EPS in Denmark.
The operations will be run
as BewiSynbra Circular
Denmark A/S and headed
by Karl Erik Olesen, who
is also the Managing Director at BewiSynbra Denmark A/S.
