Injection
moulding
At the upcoming Fakuma trade
fair, Austria-based injection
moulding machinery manufacturer
Engel will be showcasing
its latest technology and developments,
all under the central
theme of sustainability.
A key exhibit will be the new
e-speed size 420, offering 4,200
kN of clamping force, which
Engel is unveiling at the show.
The e-speed injection moulding
machines with hybrid injection
unit and electric clamping
unit combine very short cycle
times with maximum precision
and very high injection speeds
of up to 1,200 mm per second;
they operate with extreme energy
efficiency. An innovative
energy recovery system absorbs
braking energy from the
platen movements and returns
the stored energy to the motor.
The toggle lever is encapsulated
to ensure particularly low
oil consumption and maximum
cleanliness, allowing even the
standard versions to meet the
strict requirements of the food
industry.
On the stand, an e-speed
420/90 injection moulding machine
with integrated in-mould
labelling will be producing
ready-to-use margarine tubs
from polypropylene with interactive
labels using Digimarc
watermarking technology in a
fully automated injection compression
process. The containers,
which have a wall thickness
of 0.4 mm (including the
label), will be removed from
the 4+4-cavity stack mould
via high-speed, side-entry automation
and stacked on a
discharge conveyor following
camera-based quality control.
The partner companies in this
exhibit are MCC Verstraete,
Plastisud, Campetella, Mevisco
and Borealis.
Both the tubs and the labels
are made from the same material,
namely PP. This means they
can be shredded together as
production waste during manufacturing.
The company will be
processing waste label offcuts in
the form of regrind at the stand
in Friedrichshafen and, an Engel
victory 460/80 will be used to
produce Pöppelmann tapered
closures from an 8-cavity mould.

Over at the stand of Sumitomo
(SHI) Demag, the new
slogan is " Act! " Sustainably " .
At Fakuma, the company is
showcasing only machines
and equipment that promote
this target.
Among the exhibits are three
all-electric injection moulding
machines from the IntElect series,
plus one from the company's
El-Exis SP packaging range
will be put through their paces,
including an IntElect 130/520450,
equipped with an LSR
package integrated with the
Servomix Z200 metering system
from partner Nexus Elastomer
Systems GmbH, Eberstalzell
(Austria) demonstrating the
production of a freeform automotive
axial seal.
The El-Exis SP 250 will show
off its high-speed capabilities
manufacturing a cup application.
An IntElect 220/660-1100,
equipped with a special plasticising
unit for processing crystal-clear
multilayer PC, will automatically
produce emblems for
automotive exterior applications
in an IMD decoration process
that involves back-injecting a
second surface using a single
image followed by contactless
cleaning in a laminar flow box.

of permanent machine status
condition monitoring systems
designed to reduce maintenance
costs while maintaining
reliability; and the introduction
of the advanced web-based
software solution myConnect,
which gives customers direct
access to a wide range of fully
networked support services.
(Hall B1, stand 1105)
On the Arburg stand, the
new Allrounder More series for
efficient multi-component injection
moulding will be making
its debut. Further highlights
are the planetary roller screw
drives developed and produced
in Lossburg and the trendsetting
Gestica control system. A
total of nine machine exhibits
will demonstrate innovate applications
and processes at
the trade fair stand. On show
will be the efficient production
of IML cups for the packaging
sector, of blood tubes and 2k
fluid housings for the medical
sector, as well as the injection
moulding of LSR mask holders
and the industrial additive processing
of LSR materials and
original plastic granules. The
circular Economy is illustrated
by Arburg in various application
examples. These include separation
by type using a digital
watermark during the production
of IML and espresso cups.
A real eye-catcher will be the
" green " sunglasses made of
bio-based PA12 and produced
on a sophisticated turnkey system.
(Hall A3, stand 3101).
The Wittmann Group has
taken a hybrid approach to
the show this year, with presentations
live on site in Friedrichshafen,
combined with
livestreams to allow visitors to
log in on site with the technical
labs in Kottingbrunn, Meinerzhagen
and Nuremberg for
information about further selected
exhibits. The company is
showcasing the new Wittmann
Battenfeld SmartPlus servo-hydraulic
machine, complete with
the new B8X control system
with system components de
