STAR STRUCK Beauty Bloodlust Celebrity colorist Jennifer J. satiates her thirst for creating vivid, rich colors on the set of Breaking Dawn. Celebrity colorist Jennifer J. has been bitten by the Twilight bug since the book series by Stephenie Meyer first hit shelves. So when she was asked to color Kristen Stewart for her role as Bella in the two-part Breaking Dawn saga—the final installment of the film franchise based on the novels—Jennifer couldn’t resist getting a taste of the Twi-life. “When I was hired to work with Kristen, I felt so incredibly lucky,” Jennifer beams. “And a few days before shooting, I was also asked if I could color multiple lead actors, including Robert Pattinson, Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone and Elizabeth Reaser.” Turns out, the filmmakers wanted to enlist Jennifer—and her perfectionist work philosophy—to nix any continuity issues with the actors’ hair color. (Translation: The color had to look the same from scene to scene, even though the movie was shot out of sequence over a period of months.) “We couldn’t have a character’s hair one shade of brunette in one scene, and then a lighter shade in another without explanation,” Jennifer laughs. “I visited the set once every two to three weeks on average to make sure all the actors’ shades remained consistent during filming.” Well, for the most part of filming, that is. “Kristen’s color does change,” Jennifer admits with a wink. “But I can’t discuss details—it’s top secret.” What Jennifer can divulge is the key to creating Kristen’s rich brunette hue: She layered various brown shades of L’Oréal Professionnel INOA color to lend dimension and depth, and Celebrity colorist Jennifer J. “Since all of the leads have spent so much time with their characters, they definitely had input on how they wanted to look and what styles would reflect their personalities,” Jennifer says. enhanced shine with Richesse treatment (us.lorealprofessionnel.com). “I know everyone will love the actors’ looks in the next two films,” Jennifer smiles. “And I couldn’t be happier to have to put my own staple into these movies. It’s a dream come true.” —Alyson Osterman-Kerr Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) can’t keep their hands off each other—could Jennifer J.’s color magic be the reason? “Once the actors put in their ‘vampire’ contacts, they really became their respective characters,” Jennifer shares. 44 BeautyLaunchpad.com 11.11 Images: Breaking Dawn Andrew Cooper © 2011 Summit Entertainment, LLC.
