Mad About Hue
Clients will go crazy for this versatile blow-out product that banishes color fade.
It took one inspired idea, one enthusiastic support team and 60 years of combined hair and beauty industry experience for Troy and Charlene Maier to launch the Mad About Color Blow Dry Cream line (madaboutcolorhair.com). But from the birth of their idea in 2009, a brand-new “color refresh” hair care category has staked its claim in the market. The Maiers worked on the formulation for two years with a specialty hair color company, testing in salons across the country, before Mad About Color was launched in March 2011. The products, distributed by Paulmaier Enterprises and made in the U.S.A., are intended as a quick, in-salon solution to haircolor fade caused by the environment and the rigors of frequent shampooing and rigorous heat styling. Stylists can encourage clients to opt for a Mad About Color/Color Refresh Blowout after a haircut; as a time- or money-saving substitute for glazing services; or as a simple stand-alone service.
“We use the finest-quality hair colorants in a pure conditioning formula base,” Troy says proudly. “Our heat-sealed methodology infuses direct color dyes into the hair cuticle to refresh faded shades during the blow-out process. Natural botanical extracts and strengthening proteins nourish hair while color is intensified.” Available in three shades—Auburn to refresh red to red-brown hair and eliminate warm tones; Brunette to deepen the richness of browns and reduce warmth; and Platinum to eliminate brassiness and unwanted gold tones—Mad About Color can be used as a conditioning treatment to boost color between applications or as a root touch-up. Troy describes five application methods: “One, you can ‘fill’ the hair before applying permanent color to correct porosity, achieve even coverage and create optimal tone,” he informs. “Two, you can use it as a colordepositing conditioner after shampooing; three, it works as a 10- to 15-minute under-the-dryer application; four, you can apply it at the root/ regrowth area for gray coverage and touchups; and five, use it with chemical texturizers for safe and effective color.” Feedback has been so positive that the Maiers already have plans to expand the line. “We’re evaluating formulations for two additional shades: Copper Red and Golden Blonde,” Troy relates. “If our salon community response is positive, we’ll begin the process of perfecting the shades’ bases and completing the exhaustive testing required for the discerning needs of our stylists and consumers.” —Linda Kossoff Currently available in three shades, Mad About Color Blow Dry Cream boosts color
