SALON OF THE MONTH Brave New Man Valor Men’s Grooming 27 S. Main St. Phoenixville, PA 19460 610.933.1511 Valor Men’s Grooming champions new territory in the male market. Valor Men’s Grooming features reclaimed barn wood, multiple TVs and leather chairs. When it comes to minding men stylists must take a different approach, explains Eufora HERO for Men global educator Jay Fata. “With men’s haircutting, it’s all about the details—even more so than it is with women,” says Fata, a 15-year pro-beauty vet (13 of which have been spent owning salons). “There’s less room for error. It’s all about precision and sharpness.” Fata, along with Dave Chawaga, opened the Valor Men’s Grooming lounge in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, back in December of last year in hopes of serving men’s needs for both detailed cutting and great conversation. “Our salon is built on the idea of networking,” Fata reveals. “Men want to unwind in a place where they can just chill and relax.” Hence, the studio consists of only four chairs to encourage dialogue between stylists and clients. “It’s hard to carry on a good conversation when you’re shouting to be heard among blow dryers,” Fata winks. “We want our lounge to have an intimate setting.” While the space may be intimate, clients can be assured that they’ll receive a full-bodied experience whenever they visit. “We have multiple televisions, a cigar lounge, a fire pit and a bar where we offer beverages on the house,” Fata smiles. “We also offer business networking events once a month, hosted by our powerhouse clients.” The best part about running a highend men’s grooming lounge? “There’s more loyalty in the men’s market,” Fata informs. “One bad haircut with a woman typically leads to disaster—she’s more likely to go with a different stylist the next time. Men are a different story; they’ll come back and tell you what they didn’t like about a previous cut and then you can work to fix it. They’re more likely to stick with you.” —Alyson Osterman-Kerr A fire pit offers a relaxed atmosphere for easy conversation. 66 2.12 Images: courtesy of Valor Men’s Grooming Hair care: Eufora HERO for Men Best-selling product: Eufora HERO for Men Exceptional Shave Salon equipment: Pibbs
