Why use a swivel shear? BRAND NEW Italian Style Italian haircolor makes a splash stateside with the launch of Color Design USA. Italy has long been a nexus of fashion and style, so perhaps it’s only fitting that a hot new member of the professional beauty family should hail from this chic shore. Born in “the Boot” 35 years ago but just hitting US shores, Color Design USA ( haircolor offers stylists the features of a premium product at a cost-effective price. The line boasts 110 permanent and 46 ammonia-free demipermanent shades. All colors provide optimal gray coverage, can be opaque or mixed with a clear intensifier for translucence, and smell of yummy tropical fruit—yet that’s not what stylists and clients are going to love best, assures artistic director Alex DeRango. “Ceramide A2, our patented formula, is the ingredient that truly sets us apart from the competition,” DeRango explains. “It replenishes the natural amino acids, proteins and keratins destroyed during any chemical procedure, so hair is left stronger, shinier and in healthier molecular condition following our service. After surviving life as a hairdresser in the ’80s, that’s a pretty incredible thing to witness!” DeRango has worn many beauty hats. A former salon owner, product developer and platform artist for Goldwell, Joico and other haircare giants, his technical chops have been honed over the past three decades. He finds inspiration in unexpected places— from the fashion of French designer Haider Ackermann to Asian men’s magazines— and uses it to come up with new hue Patented Handle patente d finge r fitting system For the answer and to view our FREE educational video library, along with our NEW video testimonials visit us at com ears. finsh hark s 888-544-7254 Become a Facebook Fan and receive special offers 58 7.12 Images: courtesy of Color Design USA suggestions, consistently setting a fresh tone for the brand. For DeRango, color pops and innovation counts. The same holds true for the product itself. Cool blonde, vibrant red and luscious chestnut dyes are bottled at one of four completely computerized factories outside of Milan, Italy. To ensure consistency and avoid cross-contamination, no human hand touches the tubes until they’re ready for application. Such efforts have proved popular in Europe, and now DeRango hopes to create a similar great American success story. “We’d like to become a stable stateside player, while simultaneously promoting our Concrete Catwalk educational program for professional stylists,” he says. Like Color Design USA itself, the philosophy here is simple yet effective: Use modern techniques to create street-savvy looks that elevate hair from humdrum to extraordinary. When even a trip to the grocery store can feel like a catwalk strut, a lifelong bond between client and colorist is formed. —Francesca Moisin
