OFFICE OF LOTTERY AND GAMES
HOW WE ARE SUCCEEDING

Because of its benefits, I have spoken
to OCFO leadership about making remote
working a central part of our daily operations.
I truly believe that the only people who vehemently disapprove of working from home are
those who feel that they must "see" their staff
in order to ensure that they are working, but
there are better ways to monitor and measure
productivity. Generally, we measure success
by timely processing of funds received and
disbursements, and performance on closing activities. The challenges for processing of payments were overcome by having
staff rotate their time in the office to make
sure deposits are processed timely. This
occurs in the cluster central office and at the
Department of Motor Vehicles. The collection and deposit activities have not "missed
a beat" even with staggered staff operations.
Due to the implementation of the e-invoicing protocols, our Accounts Payable staff are
successfully processing payment activities
and not hampered by the requirement of handling paper.
At the end of the day, with all the challenges
in this environment, the managers and staff
have maintained the high level of effectiveness
that the cluster operations are known for. *

STAY AT HOME!!!

Columbia received effective April 1,
2020. It was necessary to implement this
order to help stop the spread of COVID19 and protect the health and safety of
those living, working and doing business
in the District. However, staying at home
presented physical, operational and
some personal challenges to the Office
of Lottery and Gaming and to our small
business retailer partners selling lottery
tickets across the city. Our team has collectively worked these past five months
to keep core functions and services
safely operating, while continuing to carry
out our critical mission of generating revenue for the District's General Fund.
The majority of Lottery's 80-person
staff has been working remotely
since the order was put in place. We
