The Bottom Line - Winter 2018 - 13

State of the
TECHNOLOGY UNION
Dear Colleagues,
It has been almost 10 months since I joined the Office of the Chief
Financial Officer (OCFO) as CIO. During this time, we have made significant progress in delivering optimal services to the OCFO community and our constituents, the taxpayers. While many
of the changes may not be immediately apparent
to you, they are important and couldn't have been
done without the active support of the entire OCFO.
Over the last few months we have changed the
strategy of OCFO's technical infrastructure to a
"cloud now" (*see below) strategy. We are actively
moving our applications to the cloud as fast as possible. The cloud provides better service levels than we
can provide internally. We have also moved our patch
management system to the cloud, giving us visibility into all OCFO-owned computers anywhere in the
world as long as they are connected to the internet.
This gives us ability to reach your machine anywhere
in case you need technical support. In coordination
with our friends at OCTO, we have moved to Office
365, giving you access to all office applications on
any device. Office 365 virtually eliminates the mailbox size limit and gives 1 TB on-line storage space to
each OCFO user. The 1TB additional storage can be
used instead of existing file shares and the files on OneDrive are available on any device inside and outside of the OCFO network. The OCIO
team will be arranging training for Office 2016 applications for all users.
These are only few examples of the improvements made with many
more to come within the next few years.
