The Bottom Line - Winter 2018 - 15

ERM is designed to help the OCFO identify, assess and prepare for any vulnerabilities (risks) that may affect our ability to
achieve our goals and objectives. ERM will
be applied across the entire organization,
in every unit and at every level, so that we
have a clear view of all OCFO risks, BIG
and small.
When the OCFO understands all the
risks that could keep us from achieving our
goals and objectives and implements an
effective plan to reduce or eliminate those
risks, we will be a significant step closer to
being BEST IN CLASS!
Why is ERM Important?
ERM is critical because its success contributes to the strength of the OCFO. If we
don't identify our risks and understand
why they exist, we will not be prepared
when something bad happens. As Maya
Angelou said, "When we know better, we
do better."
How Can You Help?
FIRST, we are asking for your help! As I
mentioned at the start of this article, we are
at the beginning of our ERM journey. We
have started to discuss and understand all
the moving parts required to make ERM
at OCFO a HUGE success. This is not a
top-down program. We need help at every

level. How? Here are some thoughts on
what you can do and more ideas are always
welcome.
*	 EMPOWERED Be empowered to
get involved by helping your division
managers/supervisors identify possible risks that can cause an unfortunate/negative event to occur within
your area and for our organization.
YOU are our experts and we need to
hear from you!
*	 READINESS Champion continuous
improvement efforts around organizational risks. Don't be a nay sayer.
If you have a better idea, we want to
hear about it.
* MOTIVATED Be motivated. Help the
OCFO achieve our strategic objectives and implement a successful
ERM program at OCFO.
More information will be provided as we
roll out the ERM Initiative. Stay tuned.......
you will hear more about the plan from
your managers and supervisors. Some of
you will become a part of various teams
and focus groups required to implement
the plan.
YOU are the SUCCESS of our ERM initiative, and I look forward to working and
brainstorming with you!
