Historic Sites & Attractions Tours Rich in History Historic Oak Grove School Nestled on the northern border of WinstonSalem near Historic Bethania and Historic Bethabara Park, is the Historic Oak Grove School. The one-room schoolhouse first opened in 1908 to serve young and eager African American students, operating through the early 1950s. For the first 25 years, one teacher instructed six, and later, seven grades in Oak Grove's single room. Though small in size, big ideas were generated inside this building, helping to create future leaders and innovators. Restored in 1998, the site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. The school still houses original furnishings that date back to the early 20th century. 2 Address 2637 Oak Grove Circle Winston-Salem, NC 27106 Phone 336.722.5138 Ext. 241 Information Groups require a minimum of 15 participants.
