Environments for Aging * special supplement

This expansion project includes
construction of assisted living apartments, a new resident fellowship center, and a new assisted living memory
support residence. The replacement
assisted living buildings respond to
market expectations for gracious
residences, including specialized
care for residents with dementia.
The four-story, 122,639-square-foot
assisted living building is composed
of 70 apartments that are mostly
one-bedroom spaces.

An existing sheltered care building, composed primarily of small
studio units, will be torn down and
replaced with a small house for
people with dementia. The new residence, connected to the assisted living building, is designed to provide
homelike living spaces that allow for
more freedom and independence
than can currently be provided
within the skilled nursing center.
The single-story residence houses 20
individual suites, each with a window seat and ensuite bathroom with
accessible shower. Dining, living,
and activity spaces are on the opposite side of the building so that living
spaces are flooded with daylight and
overlook the center courtyard space
for residents to access freely. A quiet
room, parlor, and support spaces
are discreetly located away from the
active living spaces in the core of the
building.
The new 26,700-square-foot
resident fellowship center will serve
a need for worship space while also
providing much-needed space for
other resident cultural, educational,
and wellness activities. This building
will connect the new assisted living
residence with the existing commons
and independent living apartment
buildings.
