multiple options the team decided to incorporate a multifunctional bar that serves as a coffee/juice/pastry BEFORE bar in the morning and wine/beer bar in the evening. This destination, promoting resident activity and involvement throughout the day, was located at the former reception area. A smaller reception area was relocated closer to the entrance vestibule. The central location has quickly become a destination for residents to gather. For this project, energyefficient lighting modifications provide a significant operational performance improvement. All light fixtures selected were approved for a rebate program. Not only did this provide initial cost savings to Integrace/Buckingham's Choice, it provides additional cost savings over time due to reduced replacement and future energy/ maintenance costs. All carpet removed from this project was also recycled. Overall, the design elements and color palette of the renovation promote an updated, sophisticated, and refined transitional style, appealing to current and future residents. As quoted by one of the Buckingham Choice residents, "Your design has made me feel 30 years younger." Environments for Aging * special supplement 61
