EFA DESIGN SHOWCASE MEMORY CARE Brookside at Cross Keys Village NEW OXFORD, PA. Submitted by: SFCS Architects PHILADELPHIA ALISE O'BRIEN PHOTOGRAPHY ALISE O'BRIEN PHOTOGRAPHY 84 Environments for Aging * special supplement Keeping with Cross Keys Village's mission of "enriching the lives of older adults," the vision was to create a memory cottage with the comforts of a bed and breakfast. Organized as two households with 16 residents each, this residence incorporates innovative features, encouraging discovery and engagement while minimizing confusion and frustration. Brookside is resident- and teamcentered, with secure areas that offer freedom and familiarity for residents while providing functionality and resident safety. Special tunable and auto-dimming lighting helps maintain natural sleep cycles and reduces sleep disturbances and sun-downing behaviors. Resident rooms are clustered in groups of four to assist with wayfinding and to avoid corridors. This arrangement also maximizes natural light flooding into the core of the household.
