Founded in 1911, Christian Health Care Center
(CHCC) offers a continuum
of high-quality senior living,
short-term rehabilitation,
and mental health services.
A new independent living
community is in the planning stages that not only
represents a completion of
the senior living portfolio
on the campus, but also a
new design direction for
the community and its residents. The CHCC leadership
recognized that in order to
facilitate that design shift,
a careful analysis should
take place in their Assisted
Living Residence, namely
Longview.
The building, which is
about 18 years old, did not
reflect the current programmatic needs of the residents.
There was no connectivity
to the public spaces, no
sense of community. An
abundance of traditional
detailing, patterning, ornate
lighting, and overall dated
interiors was in dire need of
a refresh.

They charged the design
team with reinventing the
Community; creating new
spaces, allowing for new
programming and greater
usage by the residents, families and guests.
The entrance sequence
was altered to offer a gracious and inviting hospitality experience as one enters
the building. From there,
larger spaces were created
such as the Great Room and
the Village Square. The Dining Room and the preceding queuing spaces were
also refurbished to reflect a
change in the Culinary program at Longview. Finally,
the residential corridors
received a light refresh to
address fit, finish, lighting,
and wayfinding.
Reconfiguration projects
in a fully occupied Assisted Living Residence is a
challenging endeavor, one
that the CHCC Leadership,
design team and construction managers met and
succeeded.
