How long have you been an administrator?

25 long years
What career or profession, other than your own, have you always wanted to try?
I've always wanted to be a baker and have my own bakery.
What advice would you give someone entering the legal administrator field?
There's a lot of advice to give someone who wants to work in legal administration, but probably the best advice is to join the GLA ALA and to be active
in the organization, either by participating on the board or simply volunteering and/or attending events. The networking, education and friendships
I have gained through my membership in GLA ALA have proven to be
invaluable. If you need to learn about the latest labor laws or trends in the
industry, implement a new policy, improve your leadership skills or just need
to blow off some steam, someone is always there to lend a helping hand.
Share an interesting "tidbit" about yourself that most people would not know:
Growing up, I lived in Puerto Rico and South Africa. While I have been to
many places, my favorite place on Earth is Hawaii.
To be successful, legal administrators have to:
Be highly organized and able to multi-task and work under pressure.
Describe yourself in three words:
Generous, compassionate and organized

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Community Connection/Justice Jog Chair 2017-2018

In my spare time I like to:
Bake/Cook, take pictures, travel and watch TV. My guilty pleasure is playing games on my iPad. Lately, I've been learning how to invest in Options
and following my option trading has been a fun hobby.
Activities (other than work) I am involved in:
I've been involved in the planning committee for the Justice Jog for the past 10 years. I enjoy doing other volunteer
work such as the LA Food Bank and Best Friends Animal Shelter as well. Besides that, most of my time is dedicated to my family and all their activities!
Describe your management style and why it works for you.
My management style is to mentor people - I instruct them in what needs to be done and then let them work independently and come to me with questions. I have an open door policy and try to treat everyone equally and fairly. I
think it works because I empower them to take control of their jobs so they can learn and grow in their positions. I
also do lots of fun things for my staff (bring in homemade goodies, buy lunch, gift cards for various occasions, etc.)
to keep morale up and let them know that they are appreciated.
