Business Partner Appreciation Reception By Michael Koehne The Golden Gate Chapter hosted its annual Business Partner Cocktail Reception on Thursday, September 15, at the perennial favorite, Sens Restaurant at Embarcadero 4. Over 60 members and Business Partners shared drinks, lots of tasty hot and cold hors d’oeuvres in a room full of laughter and animated conversation. Association President Karen Griggs was a featured guest. Karen helped us to show our appreciation to the many businesses that support our local chapter’s efforts with a lovely introduction about the community formed by the ALA and all its chapters. In conversation with Karen, this correspondent asked what regional personality differences she saw amongst Chapters in her travels as newly minted ALA President. “Well”, she said, as she carefully began to construct in her mind the diplomatic response, and then, “I just love it out here on the coast,” she surveyed the room, ”Y’all are just so laid back!” And, laid back we were. Again this year, the ‘ice breaker” and conversation-starter was “Who Am I?” Upon entry to the event at the sign-up table, printed names of celebrated San Francisco personalities were affixed, unseen by the wearer, to each attendee’s back. The game, of course, was for each attendee to figure out who “they” were by asking members and Business Partners with whom they were sharing drinks and conversation, a series of yes and no questions—the game was a hit and the level of general ice-breaking going on broke all noise level records. And so, as it turned out, not only were members and Business Partners present but also surprise “San Francisco guests”: Emperor Norton, The Mitchell Bros., Robert McNamara, Gracie Allen, Joe DiMaggio, Johnny Miller, Carol Doda and O.J. Simpson. And, at the conclusion, what’s an ALA event without a raffle!. Names were drawn, and winners announced from the list of attendees for raffle prizes: Sally Hatchett -- $50 Visa gift card donated by Update Legal Pam Delnevo - $50 Macy’s gift card donated by Nationwide Legal Jason Santiago - $50 Ozumo gift card donated by Robert Half Legal Kim Coates, via donation from John Moore who originally won - $500 certificate for ALA Annual Conference in Hawaii, donated by the Chapter Tammy France - $1,000 certificate for ALA Regional Conference in Vegas donated by the Chapter Everyone had a ball—and, if you weren’t there, you really missed out. But there’s always next year—so, see you then! And, let’s thank our Business Partners who help us provide so many valuable services to our members. Visit our Chapter Web Page and check them all out. See what valuable products and services they could provide you and your firm. Photos Courtesy of Gloria Kennard 8 Golden Gate Chapter November 2011
