The Bridge - January 2012 - (Page 9)

CHAPTER LEADERSHIP PROFILES Tammy France, Human Resources Co-Chair   “…integrity in all personal and professional interac ons…”    I grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, but have lived in San Francisco for 10 years and I love  it! My parents re red and live on a golf course in Palm Springs. They say then never want to  go back to freezing, cold Minnesota. However, my siblings must s ll have a fondness for a  more conspicuous change in seasons because I have one sister who is s ll in  Minnesota and another who lives in Boston, Massachuse s.    My fiancé and I make our home at the top of Russian Hill, where we have a deligh ul li le  Italian Greyhound named Sofia, who is the light of our life. When not working, I enjoy hiking,  yoga and all of the wonderful restaurants in the city.    I started my HR career in real estate investment firms and was recruited to law firm human  resource management several years ago. The thing I enjoy most about my current posi on is  the opportunity to create HR programs and ini a ves and to make posi ve changes in the  ALA Member: Tammy France organiza on. Some of the biggest challenges I face in my current posi on center around  Human Resource Manager at ge ng buy-in for all the great HR ini a ves and programs!  For those who may want to  Sedgwick LLP become more involved in ALA, my advice is to get out there and take a risk. It’s worth it! I  went to my first ALA event by myself, and didn’t know anyone. I a ended a quarterly  ALA Member Since 2009 mee ng and was lucky enough to find another ALA member who just happened to be  employed at my firm who was new as well. I decided to become more involved in the ALA as I have been working on a leadership  cer ficate through UC Berkeley and thought ALA leadership would compliment this pursuit, so I volunteered for the Human Resources  sec on Co-Chair role and was honored to be accepted.    My experience with ALA con nues to assist my development as  human resource manager at a law firm. A great law firm  manager must have a special combina on of quali es and  experience, but I believe utmost among them is the ability to  work with so many different personali es. Also, the ability to be  flexible and remain open to change is key. It is for precisely this  reason that the person I admire most in the world is my  grandfather. He is a former a orney and, in my opinion, exuded  the perfect quali es of leadership: He always spoke well of  others and helped those in need. I hope to leave this same  legacy behind when I reach the end of my career, as I strive to  maintain integrity in all  personal and professional interac ons.    I hope for many successful years ahead in my career, but when I  reach the point of re rement, I picture myself and husband  living in a charming house close to the ocean with our dogs, with  our friends and family close-by. I absolutely love Carmel, and  would love to re re there someday, reflec ng on  me wellspent and a life well-lived.  9 Golden Gate Chapter January 2012 http://www.nelsonstaffing.com
