QUIN HOTEL The Buckingham Hotel is being renovated and converted into what architecture/design firm Perkins Eastman describes as "the ultimate urban refuge." The 17-story building, which opened in 1929, was slated to open as the Quin just after this issue went to press. It features public spaces with leatherwrapped columns and ceilings covered with gold leaf and hammered metal plating. The guest rooms, says Perkins Eastman principal Shawn Basler, are home to detailing designed to evoke "a well-tailored suit or couture dress." That includes warm, richtoned fabrics and built-in furniture with leather drawer pulls. 52 boutiquedesign.com NOVEMBER 2013 COUR TESY OF THE QUIN (GUEST ROOM); COUR TESY OF PERKINS E A STMAN (LOBBY ). 57TH STREET AT SIXTH AVENUEhttp://www.boutiquedesign.com
