INTERIOR DESIGNER JOE CHENG 1 A honeycomb of golden light at the base of the Farrells-designed tower starts the guest experience at the St. Regis Shenzhen. knew he had all the inspiration he needed for the St. Regis Shenzhen the first time he saw Sir Terry Farrell's architectural concept. The renowned British architect and his team at Farrells envisioned the structure slated to be the world's eighth-tallest building as a towering spear of glass that would morph from day to evening as sunlight, moonlight and artificial light played over the skin. "With the diverse colors created on the glass, the building takes on a dynamic nature. Its aesthetic changes from day to evening, as does people's response to it," says Cheng, founder and chairman of CCD-Cheng Chung Design. "We wanted the interior design to be an extension of the visual phenomenon taking place on the outside." NOVEMBER 2013 boutiquedesign.com 99http://www.boutiquedesign.com
