In keeping with the project's soaring aesthetic, the Residence Inn lobby features a 16-ft.-tall custom lighting sculpture designed by Bill Rooney Studio and manufactured by Hubbardton Forge. Consisting of 4.5-in.-diameter tubes made of recycled aluminum that are lit from above by LEDs, the sculpture "references the trees of nearby Central Park as well as the urban, chic space it's housed in," says designer Bill Rooney. At last month's BDwest in San Diego, Hubbardton revealed that this arresting image of the sculpture had won its 2013 Design Photo Contest, an honor that netted Rooney's firm a $10,000 prize.
